After much hype, anticipation and a concert featuring Taylor Swift, no less, Amazon Prime Day 2019 has finally kicked off. This year, the sales period is not one, but two days long – from 12.01am on Monday 15 July to midnight on Tuesday 16 July. Of course, all the slashed prices are only available for Amazon subscribers; you can head here to sign up for £20 less than usual.
It’s a rare moment when Amazon doesn’t have a handful of TVs on special offer, so we’re expecting all sorts of discounts and price drops over the Prime Day period. So if you’re a Prime user and you’re in the market for a new TV, unless you’re willing to hang on until Black Friday, now is the moment to make your purchase. But whatever you do, don’t dither: not only will these deals vanish after Tuesday, but some before – Amazon offers ‘lightning’ deals that last for a mere matter of hours.

1. Panasonic TX-43E302B 43in Full HD LED TV (was £279, now £219)
The cost of this 43in TV from Panasonic fell by £50 last autumn, and has stayed steady at £279 ever. But in the Prime Day sale, it’s fallen by another £60 to £219. It’s no longer such a big deal to pick up a Full HD TV in the price bracket, but is still a smart if you’re spending at a budget.
2. Samsung UE40NU7120 40in 4K UHD HDR TV (was £389, now £339)
This 44in TV has been hovering around the £350-£400 bracket for the last year or so – but Prime Day seems as good an occasion as any to take the price down further. Right now, Prime subscribers can pick it up for just £339. If you’re keen to pick up a 4K TV but at no great expense, this is a great choice.
3. Philips 50PUS7303/12 50in 4K UHD TV (was £700, now £445)
The 50in Philips 50PUS730 took a nosedive of £240 during both the Black Friday and the Easter sales – and after the latter, it stayed down. You do get the sense Amazon is trying to clear out its shelves – still, this remains a slim, nicely designed Android TV. In terms of savings – a walloping 35% – this comes out as the best Prime Day TV deal. For now, anyway.
4. Sony Bravia KD49XG70 49in LED 4K HDR Ultra HD Smart TV (was £699, now £499)
Here’s a chance to pick up a newly released television at a discount. The 49in Sony Bravia KD49XG70 will not only set you up with 4K-quality visuals, but is also completely set up for gaming and smart devices with an array of ports. A price drop for this TV is rare – get it at this price while you can.
5. LG 55UM7510PLA 55-Inch UHD 4K HDR Smart LED TV (was £800, now £559)
Here’s another television that’s taken a dive in price in the last few months, albeit by less than the Samsung UE49MU6500. This 55in Ultra HD television makes a seriously tempting entry-level 4K option at just £559.
