Our Rating
The PX-128M2S is the first solid state disk we’ve seen from Plextor. The 2.5in 128GB SSD supports both SATA2 and the faster SATA3 interface. Like all current generation SSDs, it also supports the TRIM command, which helps with disk performance in operating systems that support it, such as Windows 7.
Thanks to its native SATA3 support, the PX-128M2S flew through our file transfer benchmarks. With write speeds of 210MB/s and read speeds of 230MB/s, it was easily the fastest SSD we’ve seen when handling large files. It was equally fast writing small files, with 187MB/s, but performance when reading small files was less impressive; 83MB/s reads are still fast, but slower than the Kingston SSDNow V+100 96GB, our current favourite SSD.
Plextor’s first SSD is very fast in most tasks, comparing well to disks from other manufacturers. It’s very expensive, though. Kingston’s V+100 is far cheaper yet still has great performance.
