Worth paying more for? Some good features, but not enough to justify the high price.

Like True Image 2009, Ghost 14 is a recent update to a well established package. And like Acronis, Ghost started off as a disk imaging program but now also has extensive file backup features too.
Many users will welcome the new ability to back up to network drives and FTP servers. Storing data centrally on a network attached hard disk is an increasingly popular option for home users and small offices, while FTP lets you take advantage of any web space you may have through your ISP or other online services. It would have been good if the FTP option had been available for simple file backups, rather than only for full disk or partition backups, which are less practical to do online due to size. The remote management tool, allowing you to control other Ghost installations on your network, could be handy too.
Symantec has also integrated its ThreatCon technology, a measurement of how threatening the online environment is at any given time; for instance, when a particularly dangerous virus is spreading quickly, the ThreatCon score goes up. Ghost will automatically create a new image when the ThreatCon level rises beyond a defined point, in case your PC is attacked.
As well as the fancy bits, all the basics are here. You can create full disk or partition backups, and back up individual files and folders. Overall, Ghost has plenty of good points and is easy to use. But it doesn't have as many features as Acronis True Image, and it's £10 more expensive.
