Gladiator Praetorian 6300 GT review

Verdict:

A quality and good-looking PC from the new kid on the block. Quality components and top notch gaming performance, if a touch pricey.

Gladiator is a new face in Computer Buyer's pages and we eargerly awaited to see what it could come up with for this group test.

The Praetorian uses Intel's entry-level Core 2 Duo chip, but it still flew through our benchmarks. It came level with PC Nextday's substantially cheaper PC, but there's a good reason for the Gladiator's £300 premium - the rest of its components.

Eager movie-buffs and gameaholics will love the 19in widescreen TFT monitor and despite it being from a brand we've never heard of, Hanns-G, it provided great image quality.

The processor sits in the same top-quality Asus motherboard as the Mesh and positively brims with features. There's onboard 802.11g networking, plenty of room for expansion and the rear eSata port means you can connect super-quick external hard disks. Gladiator installed a startlingly fast ATI Radeon X1900GT graphics card and it breezed effortlessly through our Call of Duty 2 benchmark to rack up the highest result in the entire group test.

There's no arguing with the quality of components on offer, but the Gladiator has a hard time keeping up with some of the competition in value for money terms. We'd consider plumping for a slightly smaller hard disk and putting the money into a faster Core 2 Duo processor. However, if you want a quiet, good-looking PC that'll make the latest games look gorgeous, the Praetorian will fit the bill very nicely.
