JustCloud.com review

Verdict:

Good-value if basic online backup and synchronisation for your files

Price when reviewed: £5

Our Rating 4 stars out of 5

Human forgetfulness and failure-prone mechanical hard disks make backups less reliable than they should be. Automatic online backup is designed to combat both these problems. JustCloud is a backup utility that whisks copies of your files to a remote and secure location over an encrypted connection. If your computer has a problem, you can be safe in the knowledge that your files are safe and sound in the cloud. JustCloud does not offer a vast palette of backup tools and is not designed to get your computer out of trouble; it provides simple automated file storage in a remote location, with no pretence of system-wide backup or recovery - if your hard disk goes bang you'll still need a Windows disc for a reinstall, but your files will be safe.

The program's front end gives an overview of the current status of your backup account and quick access to your online files, sync folder settings and the file restore routine. It also integrates with Windows. Right-clicking on any file, folder or partition gives you the option to add the file to the backup selection, back up the file straight away, or copy it to your Dropbox-style sync folder. You can schedule the backup to run up to once an hour. It’s possible to exclude certain file types and limit the backup to files under a given size. This means that you can save your documents and photos, for example, but exclude your movie collection to save space. Only files that have changed since the last backup are uploaded, saving bandwidth. The program's simplicity can sometimes be limiting, however. JustCloud only allows for a single backup routine. This means that, for example, you can’t set your emails to back up every hour, but the rest of your files once per day.

JustCloud

Once your files are backed up, you can access them from a simple web interface, which lets you browse any backed-up PCs and files and download your files individually - to do a full restore you'll need to install the JustCloud software.

While the core task of JustCloud is to provide a backup of your files, you can also use the service to synchronise files between computers and even share folders with multiple friends. You just need to drop any files you want to synchronise into the dedicated sync folder, and they will sync automatically with any computers with the JustCloud software installed logged in to your account. This is a simple an effective way to keep your files synchronised between computers, although it doesn’t provide any more service than free alternatives like Dropbox or SugarSync, and lacks SugarSync's ability to synchronise any folder you choose.

Prices for JustCloud vary by length of initial subscription; you can get unlimited storage for one PC for just £5 a month if you're willing to pay for two years upfront, which is good value, and the sync service is useful if not as powerful as SugarSync's. It's a fine backup service, but Livedrive is the same price and has some useful extra features, such as smartphone apps to view your files and free support for recovering 30 days of previous versions of files, compared to JustCloud's 7.

JustCloud not comparible with LiveDrive

I've tried Carbonite, LiveDrive, and JustCloud. Out of the three, JustCloud wins hands down -- not just for the quick backup, but for the restore after a system failure. I still haven't restored the files from Carbonite, since their software doesn't work with Windows 7 64-bit (despite what they claim); LiveDrive restored about 30 - 40% of the files it supposedly backed up (attempted the same files on three different machines, and 60 - 70% of the files couldn't be accessed over multiple days). JustCloud uploaded quickly and, just as importantly, restored quickly and without any errors. So I would have to disagree with comparing LiveDrive to JustCloud. Similar price, yes; but paying to have only SOME of your files restored after a data loss? No comparison.

Terrible and slow as death.

This justcloud.com is “garbage”!!!, so far I have been using it for 38hrs and all I have uploaded is 19gis, and I have been hitting the upload tab on the little app that is on their site, it’s very crapy little program every 3.5 hrs it will stop uploading. I have 2megs upload and on mediafire I upload a 995meg video file in a little over 63min. Also emailed them twice and they have not gotten back to me. I guess I will be doing a charge back to get my money back.

By hectoh on 5 Apr 2012

Sorry but that amount of money per year to back up your data is nuts ... for that amount I could a 2 x 1TB hard drives and do it in situ and a lot faster.

By DhenBhoy on 20 May 2012

Fail...

I completely agree. First concern - any company like this that is afraid to post their pricing online raises the hackles on the back of my neck. Second concern, ok, sent them the email and got their pricing structure, seems attractive, actually too good to be true given that they have an "unlimited storage" option for about $55/year... but decided OK, lets give the 14 day Free Trial a try. Right. Its a free trial that doesn't let you do ANYTHING, except get access to the pricing structure and their efforts to get a credit card number. You can see the pretty interface, but can't test how well it works at all. Oh, and don't even get me started about the interface not giving you access to features like encryption. Really dodgy. Well in my experience, when things before the sale concludes are this shaky, things NEVER improve after the sale. I'm outta hear. Thanks anyways.

Justcloud: Avoid!

Great 1st impressions. Nice simple interface. Then once i joined, I realised just how slow the upload facility is. They want you to pay more to increase the speed of upload, which wasn't clear at the beginning. They initially answered a few of my queries, then all went quiet and they ignored me a week into my plan. It will take me about 4 weeks (seriously) of of constant use to upload my files. Don't believe the hype. They promise a lot, but fail miserably. I thought this was going to simplify my life...its just complicated it. Really. Very annoyed.

Just Great For Me

I joined justcloud after the glowing review above and I back up the review I think they are really good. I love the way its automated and I dont have to drag files from other folders. They have an awesome control panel with file and folder sharing. And there paid plans are cheapest around for unlimited space. I would definatly recommend.

Backup speeds are so slow (as in snail-like) that the service is useless unless you have very little to back up. Plus they annoy with "discounts" and "upgrades" - the latter being necessary to get proper service. Finding out the "real" prices is not easy and even when you pay the discounted sub, you find that there are more upgrades. As for their "anytime refund"... well be prepared to wait!!!

Hopeless support

Backups seem OK but help/support is a nightmare. Reprted a problem over 2 weeks ago and at least 10 different support people have replied but no-one came near to helping. Basically cannot access account/site with iPhone despite this being advertised. Looking at their replies you can see they don't even read the question properly. Tickets get closed before they are resolved too. I would probably avoid this bunch as it is likely you will need help at some point but they really have no clue about tech support. Avoid.

Popular ... With Affiliate Promoters.

The only good write-ups of justcloud are coming from JC's affiliates. And these affiliates are very aggressive at painting justcloud as some sort of cloud storage savior.

On YouTube, you'll find lots of suspicious videos touting the service. One of them, by FindOnlineBackup, has a 17% thumbs-to-views ratio for the video! That's unheard of. In fact, it's highly suspicious marketing. May have used "Boostmynetwork.com"

[ ... A comparable video, "Online Backup Review", has just 2.5% thumbs-to-views. Also, very few comments for the number of views. FindOnlineBackup permits only positive comments, so you know he has a stake in promoting it.]

JustCloud just looks like a one-man operation and a very big gamble to entrust your personal data with. I've been burned a few times and know the pattern of scammers. JustCloud has that ripoff vibe.

I have given this a very good go, and spent a lot of time

...but I have to say that I do not believe a Just Cloud storage service exists, or works at all. I have downloaded and re-downloaded the software as asked in the email support, which always comes from a different person making it seem a giant operation. Which makes me think the last comment is more true, that is one person playing all these roles. I wanted to back up my external hard drive really, which contains my music collection, but I could not get beyond needing to upgrade to do it. Having paid £41 for 250Gb storage for a year - a discounted rate!- I queried this and was told that I am using the old software, and should get it from the desktop icon. I have done this many times, and it tells me I have the latest version. The website should have the latest version, but I go round the same old loop, my needing an upgraded account, when I ask it to back up my files. It feels like this site is, at best, only taking money by deception. At worst siphoning off details. I really would not use this. I am a naive trusting kind of person who wants to believe the best. You more cynical types should win out though, and it will be a long time before I try to buy cloud storage again.

Just NO

5 days after signing up, I have a whole 30 Gig out of 250Gig backed up. Alternatively on LiveDrive, I was able to upload my entire 250GB of backup files in about 3 or 4 days. I emailed JustCloud to cancel my account due to the uselessness of the slow uploads and they added the "upload boost"-whatever package to my account for free. This helped about as much as a case of hemorrhoids. Not even an extra 100 MEG since the so called "boost" 24 hours ago. I'm just going back to LiveDrive. Even with the little annoyances I had with them, nothing else has been worth it for me so far.

Really Pleased.

I started of with a home plan and the ended upgrading. I like the software and it's really easy to use. I've seen a few people say its slow but I have Sky's 10mb service and it works a treat. Sure the initial back up took a while but once it's dont, it's done. I would definitely recommend this to friends.

Unmittigated waste of time and money

I uploaded 135 Gigs to Justcloud. As bad luck would have it, a disk crashed and I had to restore all of my files. That process, believe it or not, took SIX WEEKS, and some files and folders were corrupt. Support from this company is ABYSMAL, and I ended up cancelling my account and requesting a refund from the company and through PayPal. Here is an in-depth review: http://kenmcvay.com/?p=366

STAY AWAY! STAY VERY FAR AWAY!!!

FIRST - Be aware of a few things: (1) When you give them your credit card number, you can never erase and they will keep it on file forever - Do NOT give your credit card number. (2) When you think you are logged-off, you are NOT - anyone can come to your computer and access your account by going to the JustCloud Website - it will open into your account page.

After I signed-up the the service, originally the free 5gb, I was sucked into ordering what I thought was a good deal of unlimited for a cheap price - at first, I declined and then three popups later the price was about 20% of the original price. Great deal, right? NO!

After I signed-up I learn that in order to have syncing abilities and faster connections, I had to pick from an ala-carte menu, all costing more money. So, I decided that I would cancel my account immediately; in fact, in the same day that I signed-up.

Canceling your account is a nightmare. It took no less than 20 emails back-and-forth to FINALLY cancel the account. The online service is awful - the must have bots answering every email until you threaten them with going to your credit card company, the FCC, and the attorney general.

So now I think I am finished with JustCloud and low and behold I receive an email from their sales group. I open the email and they REACTIVATE MY ACCOUNT. It took me another full-day to finally cancel (AGAIN).

I have no doubt that the sites that promote this as a good cloud storage solution are receiving mega advertising dollars. Or, they are so stupid that they just looked at the site without using it.

I would recommend Justcloud

I would recommend Justcloud for someone looking to backup files online. Simply select the fils you you want to save and forget about it. if you need to save more files then there s a simple drag and drop feature. its easier than a pen drive as once you have saved the files initially you can gain access to them wherever you are. My snyc folder is 20GB's unlike others but you can move things around. If you are looking for a 1 stop solution i would go for justcloud.

Loving It

I dont know why everyone is bemoaning this service, I love it. I have all my computers and my laptop backup and can move my files effortlessly. Initial upload was a little slow, but my updates are only seconds long. To have found a service where I can upload all I like for pretty much nothing is almost unheard of.

I had an issue with a licence on my laptop and the same day it was resolved, as someone who is always on email i've always found the CS and Tech Support excellent.

Fantastic service and Fantastic Price.

By MorganS86 on 12 Aug 2012

Just whats needed for security of precious files!

I agree Morgan, the initial upload was a one off, once i had all my family's music and movies online the rest have been pretty much instant! its great because when we go away on holiday we take the kids laptops and download anything anywhere.

i have only emailed into support for a few questions and they replied the same afternoon with guidance tips and a telephone number for any immediate help, how wonderful :)

would highly suggest to families who have trouble keeping track of everything or keep sentimental items on a pc or laptop. great job Just Cloud :)

Flexible

Hey all, I don't normally rite reviews but looking over some of these I thought i would let you know what I have found with Justcloud.

I'm a product design student and I use a variety of platforms with a vast array of different file types. I use it daily. I noticed on some of my files werent being backed up. I email support and found that the app would not recognises some of these obscure file types. I pretty much just sent them a list of all the files and within a few days, I could back them up.

I would say that most companies wouldn't be so flexible. TBH i was really impressed. A+++++

Great Features for a low price

I have been using Justcloud for a month and i have had no issues with it.

I pay a modest 4.95/mo for 75GB and that is plenty for me. my frst backup of 48Gb took 3 days and my backups now run daily and take seconds.

I have seen some bad review, but i really don't get what the fuss is about!! i haven't had an issue at all.

i really like the drag and drop to website feautre when i am not at my computer, it instantly ads the file to my sync folder, super easy.

i Also use the android app, which i have to say is a work of art. really great looking and tons of stuff to do on there, including backing up mobile photos, super impressed with that,

to conclude, not the best looking website, but online control panel is nice and the app is very good. give it a go.

just my humble opinion....

Just Cloud is the best

Just Cloud is the cheapest way to go, it is also very user friendly and can back up external hard drives as well.
1. Cheapest of ALL cloud services (tested and proven)
2. Can back up external hard drives
3. Drag and drop files into your cloud
4. Can sync files with multiple devices
5. Has an unlimited plan at a very cheap price
6. Option to automatically backup files
7. Large maximum file size limit of 5GB per file
8. Different versions available
9. automatic backups, download the software and you can forget it was even there.
10. Access anywhere (you can even download files that you stored through your mobile device)

Brilliant, not my words Experts, the words of Backup Weekly Magazine!

Can I shock you? I wasn't 100% behind "The Cloud" 6 months ago. In fact, it wasn't until it the clouds metaphorically truly opened and my data was washed away into the abyss that is the aftershock of what can only be described as 'a ruddy big virus' did I think, hang on here Scotty, something must be done. A comrade of mine (big steve, he did some time in the falklands, top bloke) emailed the justcloud link to me when I was back in communicado/online and I gave it a quick spin to see how she handled with her 15mb trial and yeah, abso-bloody-fantastic. I then handed over my inside leg measurement and my mothers maiden name and put down the money on the table as they say. Haven't looked back since, well apart from through my backup history. I showed my old dear photos from our youngest wedding that I'd backed up, (she couldn't make it due to her thyroid playing up) I even nabbed all mum's old photos on an external and backed that up when I got home. Now everything stays up to date as well which is grand, absolutely grand. I give it my own personal thumbs up.

Fastest Product I have Used

I have been using just cloud for a few months now, and its been pretty good. There have been a few things I have had to contact support along the way, but everything was sorted quickly. I have been having some problems with the speed of my backup, assuming it was being throttled like with Carbonite (my old provider), however it didnt seem to be the case. They have recently released an update which have fixed any speed issues I was seeing, and my backups are really flying now. It backs up files quicker than I thought my connection could handle.

I now have the software running on my laptop as well as my computer and being able to access my files from any location is amazing. There are a few more things I would like to see in there, like being able to backup my son's computer, without him being able to see my files, but im sure something like that cant be too far off.

All in all, a great product once you are a paid member, the trial was a bit limited, but if you are looking for a freebee, its probably not for you.

JustCloud WARNING! Do not use!!

Hi,

I signed up for JustCloud and it has been a nightmare!

Billing is definitely a “numbers game” and they’ve been trying to explain their 70%
off discount for a 2 year unlimited plan ($166.85 [JC FAQ] base price = $50.05 total with discount) the price was clearly stated on their website FAQ’s (not up front though) and they said that those prices are already at a 20% discount (nowhere on their entire website is this stated) so only another 50% was
applied, which is not a true 70%, but a 20%, then 50% (do the math).

Surely it is a bot or “call center” as their responses to my emails are not coherent – they are not answering my questions, nor addressing the problem which was clearly stated.

They have now billed my son (who also has a JustCloud account) $202.00 which is supposedly a 50% off price! (their website “capture” I sent them clearly states 2 years is a total of $166.85, so, not only did they not give him a 70% discount that they mentioned in the email (not 50%), they charged him MORE than the stated price! What??? (unfortunately this also sent my son’s acct into overdrawn status – an additional $15.00 from the bank!)

This will be a long haul as we will both be cancelling our subscriptions to JustCloud…not sure where the “glowing reviews” are coming from, surely not our personal experience JustCloud.

I have never been so frustrated with a company and have never written bad reviews about a company or product online.

They have driven me to WARN potential customers!! Please, it looks so good, DO NOT DO IT!!! (I have no other cloud options to offer you reviews on as I've not tried others, and sadly, will probably just spend the $100.00 to get a 1T external drive to back up to- dinosaur style). Check other real reviews, you’ll see what’s really going on!

I will follow up with the JustCloud cancelling journey...should be interesting!

JustCloud just horrible!

I wrote a review, then went to checkout "Backup Weekly magazine" since, according to a comment above, they rave about JustCloud...can't seem to find this source. hopefully the poster of the comment above can provide that? Thanks.

Fantastic!

Love this program and couldn't be without it now! The mobile features (especially iPad) are amazing! Must buy!

Easist Backup I've Done

I've been searching for almost a year now for good cloud storage and now I've finally found it. Don't look any further.

Flaky

OK - it's one of those 'I never leave comments but feel I have to' moments....
I agree with many of the problems encountered.....many MANY emails to and fro to answer the simplest of questions.
Incredibly slow to back up.

I subscribed with Just Cloud mainly for to access my files 'anywhere' - there were problems initially but I got there in the end......the sync folder is ok...but I seem to be able top only sync individual worksheets and not folders.....I was hoping to be able to do away with my memory stick.
Today I signed on to access the sync folder that has my current working papers in....and there was nothing in the sync folder.
You know that feeling when your PC doesn't recognise your flash drive....I didn't think I would be getting that feeling when using a cloud.

Several log on and offs and the files appeared....but that's not right - I'm off! (Hopefully but i'm sure that's going to take a few dozen emails)

AVOID! You have to pay extra for nearly everything!

They're even at it in this forum thread my god! Most of the 'good' reviews out there including http://online-storage-service-review.toptenreviews
.com/justcloud-review.html are Just Cloud affiliates so don't believe a word they say. For a vast majority of the useful features you have to pay extra - not even mentioned in this review which missed a HUGE fact and instead just says 'Prices for JustCloud vary by length of initial subscription'. WRONG! you have to pay extra for all-manner of extra feature from fast uploads, adding more than one computer, I could go on for hours! In summary, this makes it particularly bad value and good luck trying cancel. It took countless emails before I was finally given a secret URL to a cancellation page that's kept suspiciously separate from your normal account section.

In short, Just Cloud are duping people into getting them to sign up. Personally I'm recommending everyone avoid them with a barge pole - their evil servants even appear to at work in this comments thread - I mean just look at Scotty2Hotty comments! I mean seriously! You have been warned...

ERY BUGGY, SLOW UPLOADS, TRICKY ADVERTISING, TERRIBLE SUPPORT. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED.

I go tricked by the cheap price and "perfect reviews" that are probably fake.

Been using it for 8 months and had so many problems from day 1. Not one has been solved. More seriously, three months ago it stopped working altogether. The app shows files are uploading, but they aren't. Support has been working on the issue for 3 months now. Each time I ask for an update they send me a typical eBay style sheep copy and paste reply they doesn't even answer or have anything to do with your original question or issue. It takes a further THREE emails before they say "still working on it".

Advertising is very tricky. For example, they state there are no limits on upload speed so you think the uploads are fast, but what they don't tell you, and you only find out after having paid and subscribed, is that they have restrictions on the processing of upload files, i.e. each time a file uploads there is a little delay while it processes. You have to PAY to remove it for faster uploads. Tricky advertising.

I have 6M upload speed and it took 2 months to backup less than 100GB. If you reformat or change computers, you have to start over and backup from scratch again.

So bad. By the way, I think Justcloud mypcbackup and zipcloud are the same company, their websites are nearly identical. Zipcloud and justcloud even use the exact same cloud logo.

By adam2342 on 20 Oct 2012

I made an account with this site just so I could rip JustCloud

I've had to contact JustCloud three times in six months because their software hasn't worked properly, takes over a month to upload (after purchasing the "faster upload speed upgrade"), and now they reduced the max file size allowed from 5GB to 1GB and are charging for 5GB. They said sorry by offering a free upgrade to priority support. I don't want priority support, I want it to work right! No contact number for the company, you have to e-mail them and hope they respond, which can sometimes take upwards of two weeks. Awful company, in the process of trying to get my money back.

The Closest Thing to Criminality I Have Seen on the Net...

This is so bad.

Expertreviews and David McKinnon need to take a good look at Justcloud and decide whether they can afford to have themselves associated with this firm in any way, let alone as the publishers of a positive review.

Justcloud is the closest thing to criminality I have seen on the net.

I seriously think the best thing to happen here is that either someone tries to expose me as a purveyor of libel (for which I am happy to be sued), or they do some serious investigation into this company and the individuals that are profiting from their disgraceful actions.

There are two courses for the investigation.

The first is whether Justcloud has in any way conducted a legitimate business, and the second is how many of the writers of positive reviews for the Company are paid mis-representers.

Where are the police and consumer protection groups?

Somebody do something!

By MichaelW on 28 Oct 2012

Dishonest Business

Just Clouds website is highly misleading. I felt duped.

Don't believe the reviews that place these guys at the top of the cloud storage suppliers.

I signed up with JustCloud for their 2 year Ultimate package only to discover immediately after that they charge for 'Upgrades' and start aggressively pushing these. These upgrades basically add all of the really useful functionality that you expect from a cloud storage provider. E.g. 'fast uploads' or 'syncing' or 'backup of files bigger than 1GB'. I discovered that I would have to pay another £100/year for a 20GB sync briefcase. That would make them more expensive than livedrive who offer a brilliant service with a massive 5TB of briefcase storage on top of NAS backup, multiple PC's, FTP access, hot-linking and many other great tools.

The JustCloud UI is very average as is the overall functionality. The backup client software isn't particularly stable either.

I cancelled my account, studied all of the service providers in detailed and signed up with livedrive's 'Pro Suite' for a year which is a really excellent all round service. The headline cost is higher than JustCloud but it's an excellent all round storage service which JustCloud wouldn't be able to match even with all of their 'Upgrades'.

By RegularGuy on 28 Oct 2012

Avoid - 1 star (if that)

I have just sent an e-mail requesting cancellation of my subscription and asking for a refund. Prepared to fight if needs be. I purchased a subscription for unlimited backup and then paid for the optional speed enhancement. I find today, when checking the status of backed-up files, that files stored on my network drive are now no longer backed up.
No information, no warning they just stopped doing it! Enquiring, I was informed that too many users were mis-using this feature with the implication that it was beyond fair use…! This despite the fact that there was a support page on Just Cloud’s website describing exactly how to do this when I signed up a month ago…
A company that continues to sell feature it plans to depreciate within 6 months never mind 1 is in my opinion, as a previous reviewer stated ‘criminal’.

JustWhat?JustFlawed, JustCrapWare.

Just Incompetent. Just Not Trustworthy.

Whoever is behind this prod "Service" can not provide reliability and integrity. I have been "shoved" around with tech support answers that resemble the level of a 5 year old. In plain English: Irrelevant answers to the issue with explanations as low as to "restart my computer" as if I didn't know what I wrote about. I'm glad I was not told where the power switch is and to make sure the system is plugged in!

The issue is still the same: High CPU usage up to 60% by backupstack.exe even without a backup running. It requires us to shut down backupstack.exe when doing work. The OS's are Windows XP and 7 with 3GHz+ dual core CPU's, more than 2 GHz RAM, with typically about 70% free . Pagefile (on C:) is 8GB.

The high CPU usage up to 60% by backupstack.exe when all idle and no scheduled backup active is causing opening applications and working to a total unusable slowdown. After a couple of hours backupstack.exe might fall down to < 5% CPU usage. But a single mouse move, opening an application, a browser or scrolling an open document, backupstack.exe jumps again to fluctuate around 25 to 60 % again for no apparent reason whatsoever.

After several back and forth and no resolve but same explanations and variations on a theme I received an notification that it has been passed on to the developer team.
So I waited. Ten days and no sign of a reply. Yesterday I discovered that suddenly I have only max. 1 GB file size instead the 5GB I always had and my selected folders to be backed up was reset to back up all folders!

No email was sent, no customer alert about changes of any kind. Just all done silent behind the scenes changes. In the control panel it suddenly offers “You want 5GB?? Click on it and you get to their website where they want to sell you now an upgrade for something I had all along. Bait and switch? That's how trust is broken!

Fact is, partition C: where the OS and all Apps are installed is not on the backup schedule at all! All user data is on D: and E: partitions and the latter are on the backup schedule.
Disabling (hiding) partition D: and E: so the system "sees" only C: still has the same cause despite absolutely nothing is scheduled to be backed up from C: at any time.

I have sent task-manager screen shots and process explorer screenshots only to be totally ignored and unacknowledged.

I’m done with this amateur organization and their gross incompetence. On top of all I don’t trust them any longer at all.

Avoid like a plague

My recommendation is to stay away from JustCloud. I wish I read the following

http://download.cnet.com/Just-Cloud/3000-18500_4-7
5692723.html

and the following

http://www.thebackuplist.com/why-people-hate-just-
cloud/

and the following

http://www.techiehq.net/pc-technical-talk/avoid-ju
stcloud-scam-warning-86469.html

before signing up for their 2 years unlimited backup plan. I can confirm that everything written in those user reviews is absolutely true (unreliable SW, trying to charge extra for features that are already included in the plan, terrible service and support, etc.) and have logs of actual e-mail exchanges to prove it.

I ended up cancelling the service and losing north of 100$ on that scam.

Avoid like a plague!

Just Stay Away!

Stay away from JustCloud!
It is not at all what the write-ups and reviews praise about. Reviews and tech publications are likely not testing all thoroughly and are quick to judge with fanfare, dishing out awards, lacking objective scrutiny and analysis.

JustCloud is a grossly deceptive and incompetent service appearing more like a one man [marketing] show basement or garage operation unable to address or solve any issues.

1) They sell you with a too good to be true “special offer discount.”
Once you sign up you get inundated with upgrade offers to pay extra for this and that here and there and with unclear terms. From more storage, to larger files, to faster uploads etc., etc. Much like a cars salesman selling you a car but, oh! Wait! The tires are extra, the engine too, you want a transmission? that’s extra too, seats? You get my point.

2) How can you trust that your files are indeed encrypted and not read or used? JustCloud’s unprofessional conduct throughout raises some serious questions and issues about integrity, confidentiality and competence.

3) They change they’re terms (you paid for) without notifying you. Unannounced system updates, no user options to decline
When I signed up, having believed some meaningless reviews comparisons found online, I could choose file size from 1GB to 5 GB, Select which drives and which folders to backup.
It is as if they want your system and have full control over it. Recently I noticed the JustCloud user app has been again “updated” without any notification or option and my max. file size was reduced to 1GB. A link next to chirped: “Want 5GB file size?” Yes, you now have to pay a monthly extra for that! No notification, no announcement, no nothing ever about this change was sent by JustCloud. What’s next? Still trust them? Not me.
Furthermore, my on the selected drives ALL folder and files are backed up and any attempt to [re] select the folders and files I want to backup is not saved and defaults again to all.

4) Their technology is immature, incomplete (“Just Developed it”, how true!) and full of bugs.
It took me almost one (1) month (!) to backup 250 GB of data on a 20MBS uplink. Of course they sell you for a monthly extra a “faster backup”. Imaging restoring all that in an emergency…! Has anybody ever restored a mission critical data. Wait for months to complete? Who’s going to guarantee it will work? Will you [again] have to pay extra?

One thing we noticed right away was a significant system slow down. Investigating the cause we found that a file installed by JustCloud “backupstack.exe” was the primary cause using for no apparent reason 30 to 60% CPU resources without any scheduled backup running. But this was not the only issue found.
We also found that our context menu slowed down dramatically often taking 5 to 10 seconds to show upon right clicking a file name.). Besides a symptom of general overall slow down of our systems even with backupstack.exe killed in task manager. Turns out JustCloud install a poorly coded menu handler: MPCBContextMenu (http://windowsxp.mvps.org/slowrightclick.htm).
Once JustCloud was completely uninstalled and all related registry entries removed above mentioned context handler disappeared and the context menu was normal responsive again. Overall the systems speed up again to the before accustomed performance and speed prior to installing JustCloud.

5) Their tech support, email only, is a “mind game playing” joke at best wanting you make believe they are at it. It appears again there is a one person “boiler room” operation that replies, every time with a different name. The sentence structures are too similar so are the spelling and grammatical errors. The answers are rife with irrelevance and incompetence evidently not understanding what the issue is. Never mind that English grammar seems to be a challenge as well. After several inquiries to resolve an issue we got “shoved” off to “supervisor level” only to never hear anything again.

The main issue, one of a few being:
The file “backupstack.exe” used between 30 to 60% CPU resources, despite that:
a. No backup was scheduled and running
b. Partition C:\ where all applications are was not even on the backup plan
c. Partition D:\ and E:\ where data files reside where the only partitions and folder/files selected to be backup, typically at night, after midnight.
d. Addressing the issue to their tech support became the equivalent of talking to a 5 year old explaining to wash his hands with soap!

6) Their tech support answers are absurd. Here are a few typical examples of many:
(Note all our systems have 2GB+ RAM, Run 3.2 GHz dual cores, SATA3 1TB drives)

ISSUES EMAILED TO SUPPORT:
“Backupstack.exe seems to run always and hover around 20 to 30% CPU load when "idle". The second an app is started it jumps up to 60% slowing all terribly down.
As I write this email it runs around 30% to 50%* making the system* useless slow. I have to go kill backupstack.exe the task in Task Manger
* Task Manager & Process Explorer screen clips attached

THEIR TECH SUPPORT REPLY:
In order to resolve your issue, please make sure your RAM is under 1GB then I advise You our minimum requirements are at least 500mb of RAM, possibly you can stop other resources from taking up memory

Want another one? Take 2:

ISSUES EMAILED TO SUPPORT:
RAM under 1 GB? I have 2GB!!
Did you READ my last email?
Did you understand what I wrote?
-------------------------------------------
It is not a memory issue, as on average 1.2GB to 1.4GB are available.
It is a CPU high usage rate issue.
Backupstack.exe is using too much system resources when idle and not active.
Backupstack.exe uses up to 60% CPU time at any activity e.g. opening a application browsing the web etc.. When an app is started it goes up to gobble up to 60%, on average 40% of CPU time. Typically it uses around 30% to 50% CPU time.
This is particular extensive after a reboot although nothing has changed and partition C:\ where the OS and all applications reside is not part of the back scheme.
The system resource (CPU usage) setting of JustCloud is irrelevant and has no effect, low or high, on the issue I am having.

I sent you previously screen prints of process explorer and Task Manager.

THEIR TECH SUPPORT REPLY:
Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience caused.
I need to inform you that if you are running other multiple high graphics application simultaneously, which your system cant tolerate. This is the only reason for core and ram consumption. I request you to run the our app individually or close some of high graphical application to maintain system stability.

Want another one? Take 3:

ISSUES EMAILED TO SUPPORT:
Do you read my emails???
I never mentioned anything about that I'm using graphics applications!!

THEIR TECH SUPPORT REPLY:
JustCloud runs several processes that are necessary for the v3.2 GHz various functions of backup and sync system. These are listed below:
BackupStack.exe – Service process responsible for monitoring sync folder changes, performing backups, scheduling backups.
Justcloud.exe – User interface
Updater.exe – Performs software updates.
Please provide us the hardware configuration of your computer. Our minimum requirement are at-least 500mb of RAM,possibly you can stop other resources from taking up memory.
You can check the "Power & CPU" on the justcloud application.

Here is another one and so on and so forth…: (Our Answers in CAP, you can see our frustration emerging)

I am sorry to hear about the problems you are experiencing, this is something we are able to fix and to do so we would first like to check that your settings are correct.
A: I HEARD THIS FOR A WHILE NOW WITHOUT RESOLUTION OF THE ISSUE!

Please click on 'Settings' on the main application window and check the following:

- Under ‘Backup Selection’ please double check that the files you want to backup are correctly selected. The best way to ensure this is to select ‘Manual Backup Selection’ and make sure you are selecting all your files that you want to be backed up.
A: I KNOW THAT AND IT IS NOT THE ISSUE!

- Also under ‘Backup Selection’ there is a slider for setting the maximum File Size Limit. It is important to ensure this is set to cover the largest file you want to backup – this easiest way to do this is to simply set it to the ‘Max Limit’
A: I KNOW THAT AND IT IS NOT THE ISSUE!

- Under ‘File Types’ is a list of any file types or file extensions that will not be backed up. You can add or remove file types from this list. If you are unsure of what these are, or do not want to check what file types are in your backup selection we would advise removing everything from this list.
A: I KNOW THAT AND IT IS NOT THE ISSUE!

If you have made any changes go back to the main application window and click ‘Start Backup' and you should find your problem has been resolved.
A: NO IT IS NOT SINCE YOU NUMBHEADS DON'T READ OR UNDERSTAND WHAT I WRITE TO YOU!!!

If your backup settings are correct, or you are still experiencing problems once making changes please let us know the size of the largest file you want to backup, the size of the full amount of data you wish to backup and any other information you feel is relevant. Screenshots of problems are always very helpful for communicating problems.
A: I KNOW THAT AND IT IS NOT THE ISSUE! I HAVE SENT SCREEN SHOTS IN THE PAST AND NO ONE ONE EVER REACTED TO THE RELEVANT IMAGE/ISSUE

You can view a video tutorial about the backup settings here: http://www.JustCloud.com/help-center/question/177/
backup-settings
A: I KNOW THAT AND IT IS NOT THE ISSUE!

A: LET'S TRY THIS ONE MORE TIME AGAIN: BACKUPSTACK.EXE, WHICH SEEMS ALWAYS RUNNING (TASK MANAGER), IS CONSUMING ANYWHERE FROM 30% TO 60% OF CPU TIME EVEN IF NO SCHEDULED BACKUP IS RUNNING!

IF EVENTUALLY AFTER A LONGER SYSTEM IDLE BACKUPSTACK.EXE IS NO LONGER DEMANDING ANY CPU ACTIVITY IT WILL DO SO AGAIN UPON ANY OTHER APPLICATION, DOCUMENT OR WHATEVER ELSE IS OPENED E.G. A SIMPLE NEW TAB IN A BROWSER, A NEW DOCUMENT IN WORD, A MOUSE MOVE, ETC.

THIS ALL CAUSES A SUBSTANTIAL SYSTEM SLOW DOWN RENDERING EFFECTIVE WORKING WITH THE SYSTEM NEAR USELESS!

ATTACHED AGAIN ARE THREE SCREEN CLIP SHOW WHAT BACKUPSTACK.EXE IS DOING EVEN IF NO BACKUP IS SCHEDULED OR RUNNING.

Just Cr*p

Avoid this at all costs, the T&C's stink and these guys give themselves the right to renew your license at will and charge it to your card, they did this to me and charged 3 times the original monthly fee for several months before I spotted it, I had to cancel my credit card just to get rid of them.

to me
Hi Johnnie,

Thank you for your email.

I understand your concern, we have introduced a big change to the way video files, files over 1GB and files from external storage are backed up. These changes have been brought about so we can keep our subscription prices as fantastically low as they are and so we can continue to offer truly unlimited plans.

Your feedback told us video files and large files don't change often, once they are backed up they are rarely changed. So we made it so you can still backup video files and files over 1GB with a normal subscription, you just need to do so using Drag & Drop or instant Backup.

The same applies for any files on an external drive or Network drive; you can still drag and drop these or use the right click instant backup feature for free.

However if you want to include these files in scheduled, automated backups you will need to purchase the new additional services to do so:

Video Backup - 14.95
Files over 1GB - 19.95
Network Drive backups - 99.95
External Drive under 500GB - 39.95
External Drive over 500GB - 79.95

We appreciate this will not work for everyone, you may find your backup needs are more suited to one of our business plans, https://my.JustCloud.com/business-compare

As a valued customer we would be happy to offer you the Video Backup add-on for free.

Please let me know if there is anything further I can help with or if you require clarification on how to Drag & Drop files or use Instant Backup.

Thanks for your reply.

I understand that you are in a competitive market, and have to modify prices and features over time to compete and to maintain profitability. I get that, and I am sure you covered yourself in all the fine print to be able to legally downgrade the features on a customer who paid in full for three years of service just months after doing so. However, what I am concerned about is a matter of principle and fair business practices. You are deliberately reducing the functionality that was in place at the time of my signing up for long term service with no obligation on your part to maintain that service level for the duration of the agreement.

I do not care about the NAS drives or external drives, and never even tried to automatically back up such devices, but if that had been a prior feature and it suddenly stopped working for me, rest assured I would be more upset than I am, given the cost for those add-ons. I was however backing up large files and video files automatically, and am annoyed that you want to charge me for such features now. As you say, I can just drag and drop the files anyway. This is not really a matter of need on my part, as much as I am concerned that you would remove such functionality, and then try to charge me to put back the functionality you removed. If I was paying month-to-month, I would expect such changes to take place at the next billing cycle. As someone who paid in full for three years however, I would expect those changes to take place at the end of the three years, if I chose to renew.

At this point, I would like the $19.95 back I spent yesterday to remove the 1GB limitation. I really hate that your site upgrades with one click without prompting for confirmation, and my choice to pay to upgrade was completely unintentional. I know of no other reputable site that completes transactions without confirmation.

As for the offer to give me the automated video backup for free, it will do me little good with the limitation of the 1GB file size for automation. I had hoped you would reinstate both of those features at no charge to me, but if not, I am not adverse to using drag and drop instead should I continue with your service. Although I have really enjoyed the speed, stability and functionality of your service to date, and had been recommending it to friends and coworkers, I am strongly considering terminating my account in light of the concern I have over making these changes the way you did. Judging by this, you can change critical functionality at any time, and then charge the customer to restore it. As I have no reason to believe you will not make additional changes that will affect the value of your service to me more drastically, I am seriously considering if I want to continue with your service at all.

Can you please provide me with the prorated amount that will be refunded to me, should I decide to cancel?

Regards,
Johnnie Dunkum

Hi Johnnie,

I’m sorry to hear of your disappointment but we have had to follow our competitors and implement this charge in line with our fair usage policy due to an increasing number of users abusing our service.

Users were never suppose to be allowed to backup network drives or external drives over 32GB as part of any home user plan, but we let users have this ability for free up until now.

A great upside though is that the system as a whole is now faster than ever and we can maintain the lowest price in industry.

You may find our business plans better suit your needs, you can switch to a Home Office plan which gives you unlimited free external drives, network drives, and 1GB+ file upload for just $9.95/month and switching is as simple as just clicking the business link that will be inside your control panel or visiting https://my.justcloud.com/business-compare

Again I’m sorry that we had to copy our competitors and make these changes but we believe this makes for a better service for the whole community.

Based upon this reply, I gather my e-mail was too long last time, as it seems it was not thoroughly read. Most of the key points I made had nothing to do with NAS or external drives, as that is not a concern to me. I will stop trying to make any points on the subject of fair business practices and make this simple.

1. Out of frustration, I inadvertently clicked the button to pay $19.95 to allow for automatic backup of files larger than 1GB. I want to undo this change and have the $19.95 refunded.

2. I would like to understand how much of my money will be returned to me, should I decide to cancel my service at this time.

Hi Johnnie,

Thank you for your reply.

I look forward to hearing from you shortly.

I don't understand what these free backup credits are that you speak of. I simply want a refund of the $19.95 I was charged because your system does not prompt for purchase confirmation at all. I clicked the upgrade link to get more information on reinstating my ability to automatically backup files larger than 1GB and it instantly charged me and added the upgrade to my account. Just remove the upgrade and refund my money.

I also specifically have asked twice now to confirm the amount of money that will be refunded to me if I choose to cancel. Your terms indicated that a prorated refund is possible and without penalty should the terms of service change and I do not accept them. I will simply stop asking for information after this and follow the process to cancel my account if I do not get this information.

If I do not get adequate response to this email, I will be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, and including all of this correspondence in the complaint.

No offense to your service, but I am done. It has a lot of potential, and I can certainly understand the need to put restrictions on all of this, but this has turned into a massive hassle for something that behaves differently now, than it did during the trial period when I was evaluating it. I simply do not like the way you do business in general, and want to be done. I would like to cancel my account effective immediately, and be advised of the total prorated refund I am due. I do not agree with the changes in your service, and am not getting the same level of service I expected upon prepayment. Unless I get a fair and reasonable refund, I will file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau on this matter.

I have already unassigned the licenses from my computers and deleted them from my account. I just to get back my refund and terminate my account.

I do appreciate that I was finally able to get that problem resolved, but this has taken too much time and effort, and has shaken my trust in your company entirely.

All I had wanted was for my service to remain stable and unaltered to what I signed up for a few months ago. In truth, I would have been willing to live without automatic backups of such data, but it was nice to know it was being backed up. I was totally upset that it was removed like that, just to give me a popup message that I could get it back for a fee. If the automated backup of such files had been disallowed for everyone, I might not have even been upset, but to remove that functionality and say we can get it back by throwing more money your way is not the way to do business, in my opinion.

I was seriously planning on maintaining my service before the past two days of runaround. Although unpleasant, I could just deal with drag and drop to store the files that are no longer backed up automatically. However, after all of this runaround, I do not feel I can trust your company any longer at all.

Please provide me with clarification on what portion of my money will be returned to me by cancelling my service at this time. Once I have that information, I plan to proceed with cancellation.

I have already removed all my files from the server in preparation to cancel, so I see little reason to stay at this point, since I will have to back it all up again, especially having to do much of it with drag and drop now. Although I appreciate the offer of 5GB Sync space, all I wanted was to maintain the service I had. This has now turned into a matter of trust. For me to trust a company to store my sensitive data, I should not be questioning their business practices.

Please just confirm the refund amount I will receive and I will advise with confirmation on my cancellation once I have those details.

Thank you for your time.

Thanks for finally providing me with the information I have been requesting someone provide me with for days now.

I find your "prorating" policy absurd though. Based upon my calculations, using the full cost of a two year contract, the monthly cost of the unlimited service is no more than $8.69 per month for unlimited backups of one computer.

I believe at the time I purchased the service the full face value for one month of unlimited service was $9.95, so using that value for three months of service would put me at a loss of no more than $29.85 for the service.

I would expect the $24.95 upgrade fee to allow a second computer to be backed up would be either refunded in full, or prorated based upon the time I used it. That works out to $2, give or take.

I know you charge a $14.95 early termination fee, but you also specify that under a change of terms, that is not applied. Given that you changes the terms and functionality of my service, I would expect that to be waved.

Under the circumstances, I would expect a minimum of $86.95 to be refunded to me upon cancellation. The fairest amount, given the circumstances would be $110.98. Keep in mind none of this would be happening if you had not tried to charge for functionality that was present at the time I signed up. I would still be a happy customer and oblivious to the questionable business practices you implement.

My preference is to be done with your service and move on. If you agree to refund at least $86.95 for cancellation of my service, then please do so.

Failing that, I would be willing to stay with your service should you reinstate the full functionality such that it performs as it did when I signed up for service on 8/9/2012. If anything changes again to reduce my functionality only to be subsequently offered to have it returned for a fee, I will go straight to the Better Business Bureau to file a claim and seek out any means I can to report these highly questionable business practices.

If you do not agree to either return a minimum of $86.95 to me and cancel my service, or refuse to restore my service's functionality back to what it was before at no additional cost to me, I will file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and seek out additional means of reporting this matter.

I am typically an easy-going person, and certainly have nothing against any of the individuals who are responding to my complaints. I do not enjoy such fights, but when I feel I something is unjust, I do fight hard. Whoever is running your company and setting the rules should be ashamed of themselves. I work for the Dow Jones at the Wall Street Journal office in DC. Walt Mossberg, one of the more influential technical journalists around, is just a few offices down from me. I plan to provide my experience to him in case he or his team do any evaluations related to your service. Whatever your terms and conditions may state, your business practices are inappropriate.

Please let me know if you intend to meet my demands stated above. If not, I will proceed as described.

Thanks and have a nice day.

Hi Johnnie,

I understand your concern, we have introduced a big change to the way video files, files over 1GB and files from external storage are backed up. Hi Johnnie,

I am really sorry for the inconvenience caused to you,
I would like to inform you that you have used this service more than 2 months so we need to deduct that much amount of money as well as early termination fee along along with add-ons service which is we cannot refund. As per our terms and conditions.

So deducting following amount we have replied in last email that much amount you will get.

But we would like to offer you any add-on service which you need if you stay with justcloud.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can help with.

Slugs your PC

Like a few others on this list I'm suffering from high CPU despite the fact that JC doesn't seem to be backing up anything (hasn't done so for days). And Resource Monitor suggests that it's doing a lot of disk writes (TO WHERE and WHY??). I would not recommend this product.

Very buggy, bad support, hidden fees, charges you to cancel

JUSTCLOUD IS HORRIBLE. VERY BUGGY, SLOW UPLOADS, TRICKY ADVERTISING, TERRIBLE SUPPORT, HIDDEN CHARGES. CANCEL AND THEY WILL CHARGE YOU. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED.

Resource hog buggy program. Had problems from day one. Most significantly it just stopped working altogether saying my licence had expired and just would not backup anything else. It's been 3 months, I've been through all the silly hoops and processes with support, I've sent over 20 emails, 6 screenshots and uploaded 3 zip files of data and they are still "working on it". I haven't been able to backup for 3 months.... that's not the worst. Read on.

Finally, after three months I had enough - why should I have to spend so much time communicating with support and what's the point if I can't use it? You would expect this to be a quick and simple cancel and refund as their program is broken, they can't fix and I am unable to backup, but far from what I expected - total opposite. Get this, I just cancelled my account and they CHARGED ME to cancel it! Ridiculous! I paid one year up front, have only used it for 3 months before their crappy program broke down and they refunded me the grand total of $2.93. Robbers. Specifically, they charged me $14.95 to cancel, only refunded me $2.98 for each of the remaining 6 months and refused to reimburse me for the 3 months I have been unable to use their service. Their reasoning was although you are unable to backup we are still providing you a service as you can still access the previously backed up files online. Actually, that is only half a service and I did not sign or pay for that. The guy on the telephone when I was cancelling even said I was being uncooperative and unreasonable for asking for the 3 months reimbursement, WHAT? UNBELIEVABLE. Their service won't work for me and they charged me to cancel!!! I should charge them for all the time I've spent emailing support with the above issues. HORRIBLE!!!! Quite simply, it's illegal to charge for a service that hasn't been provided.

This is how JustCloud will treat you.

By the way, Justcloud mypcbackup and zipcloud are the same horrible company, I hadn't realized they were all the same company until I called JustCloud to cancel and the guy answering said "Hello, this is ZipCloud".

YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!!!

JustCloud product

This is just basic fraud: JustCloud software created havoc on my HD by creating duplicate directories, moving around original directories and creating multiple copies of files. It took about 5 minutes to sign up and download and it took about 3 months to clean up the mess. Forget about any refunds - it's a trap.

Beware of their T&C and hopeless suport

Justcloud reviews

There are several important things to consider with JustCloud.

Firstly JustCloud is a product of a company called Justdevelopit Ltd. based in the UK. Unit 6, Fulcrum 2 , Solent Way, Whiteley, Hampshire PO15 7FN United Kingdom.

I mention this as in JustCloud's T&C they say that in case of a dispute you have to abide by US laws and I presume attack them through the US courts or in case of an International client at either party's request, be  settled under the Rules of Arbitration of an International Chamber of Commerce. I checked the costs for this: about $6,000!!!!!

The only address on JustClouds T& C is their UK address above so as they are a UK company you should be able to make a small claims  in the UK even without their permission.

This is important as most claims will be for refunds if the product does not work and the claims will be small, about $200 ish. The cost of making a claim in a Small Claims court UK is minimal.

Next : Their support. I had a problem that started in early October 2012. My JC will not backup at all. Not slow, just not back up. I have had 14 different support people reply mostly with "please update" or "slow is normal at first" not one support team has even addressed the problem of no back up at all. Hopeless. I have written to the CEO of Justdevelopit. Waiting.

Next: The product is guaranteed for 30 days from payment or registering. Initial backups upload at say 4 gb to 8 gb  per 24hours (their estimate). So to upload 250gb ( 50% of my iMac's hard disk ) will take  30 to 60 days. And if as with me the software fails after then there is a big problem.

Finally: Unlimited yes but with restrictions.  Want to backup an attached exHD €75 each! Want priority support €€. Over several hundred GB backed up they may ask you to use a professional plan. €€€.

If this is as they say a quality product then why is their T&C so evasive? And as for their Support. It sucks.

Avoid JustCloud by any means - choose something else

The only thing they do well is send you harassing emails after you have finally managed to cancel your trial account (to which I never got fully funded) saying that your account is still waiting for you (after I specifically asked them to delete my account and contents - you see it is impossible to manage your files after they finally get loaded so in essence you are throwing your private information into the cloud and trusting them to a company that has a useless product and a customer service that harasses you for weeks on end after you have opted out DON'T CONSIDER JUSTCLOUD. JustCloud is Truly Awful and Will Rip You Off

www.JustCloud.com - what a load of rubbish. I signed up for JustCloud because I saw good expert reviews, do NOT listen to them. You will regret getting involved with JustCloud. You have to pay extra for what should be basic services and if you are unhappy they will charge you to leave. They refused to refund my add-ons too after just 9 days, so I lost a total of £90!!! I hate JustCloud and will make sure I nor anyone I know deals with them again.

Cant Recommend

5 Month in of real usage and I have to say I can't recommend this service. For one the advertising is misleading, Unlimited is not unlimited, i.e. external USB drive you have to pay extra per drive.

Sharing files is a joke, if myself and my IT director struggled, I'm classed as a geek and his title say it all I hope, the person has to sign up and then after several attempts and help from support we gave up and used SugarSync.

Furthermore to be told my files were not being sync as I gone over 16GB's on a USB drive via Tech Support means I have not actually had my precious files protected for all these months eevn though the folders show-up. I di not delve in to each to see that all the files were there.

All in all it's far costly than you imagine once you have added what you actually need to get unlimited space, in my case several hundred dollars pa and the service is slow, un-reliable and at time unusable.

If you have complex needs then this solution will not deliver and if they are more straightforward and you don't need unlimited space then there are far better services like Syncplicity of in my case SugarSync which on the whole as been bullet proof.

I tried to be fair in my review and given I've been using Sincplicity and then moved to SugarSync I am reasonable experienced to give this feedback.

JUSTCLOUD
“In the cloud” backup seemed like a good solution for backing up data for my small company so I did a little on line research to choose a good reliable reputable backup service. JustCloud seemed to have good ratings and reviews at a reasonable price on quite a few web sites. And in choosing JustCloud is when my nightmare started!
The first problem was with purchasing the additional 5 GB of sync space needed to link my home and work computer. After numerous lengthy e-mails, hours spent trying to get the sync to work and being offered discounts on existing purchases and additional upgrades I received the following e-mail from the JustCloud User Experience Team admitting the problem with no fix date in sight!
Hi Mike,

Thank you for your email.

We are very much aware of these issues and our development team will be fixing it in the future, regrettably though as our priority is with backup other development priorities will delay a fix for this.

I appreciate this is not ideal, we will be happy to upgrade your sync folder to 20GB when we resolve the bugs with it.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can help with.

Kind Regards,

Keith Steele
User Experience Team

After additional e-mails and more wasted time I finally received a full refund for the additional 5 GB of sync purchased. The refund that originally was supposedly was not refundable.

The next problem noticed was the fact that my computer was taking anywhere from 1 ½ hours to 1 ½ days to not even finishing at all, backing up my daily data to JustCloud. They claimed that after the initial lengthy backup the additional daily backups would complete in only a few minutes. Once again, after numerous e-mails and hours and hours of wasted time I received the following e-mail from the JustCloud User Experience Team admitting the problem with a fix date of mid to late February. And guess what, late February has come and gone without a fix!

Hi Mike,
Thank you for your email.
We are aware of problems existing with file versioning and stalling backups. In mid to late February this will be fixed for definite.
As far as I have been made aware this won't require an update to the application, it will purely be a fix on the server side.
We will compensate you for the time the service has not worked correctly and your patience is highly appreciated.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can help with.
Kind Regards,
--
Carl Palomares
User Experience Team

Again, after numerous other e-mails requesting a refund in full for a service that wasn’t working and being offered discounts on existing and additional upgrades we found a telephone number to contact JustCloud. After about an hour on the telephone with customer service, being told that we should not have received the above e-mail admitting the problem and that would have to pay a cancelation fee we finally received a refund in full for the 2 year agreement for the first computer but were denied a refund for the additional 1 year license purchased for the second computer. To date, JustCloud still owes me a refund for the second license that was purchased.

I don’t know who JustCloud pays to get these great reviews but from my horrible experience with them I wouldn’t recommend them to my worst enemy. This is definitely one of the worst scams that I have ever been involved with. My time while running a small business is extremely valuable and this scam bothered me so much that I took time out of my busy schedule to write this to warn others about JUSTCLOUD!

Not a Reliable or Reputable Company

I am a cancer patient and do have issues due to my treatment. I mistakenly opened a JustCloud account and 2 hours later after discovering my mistake, I attempted to cancel the account. I followed the directions provided on JustCloud's website and those provided in subsequent emails. I note that it took a week and several emails before I even received acknowledgement by JustCloud that I was cancelling the account. Finally, I was asked to confirm the cancellation which I did. NINE days later I received another email directing me to go to JustCloud's website and start the process all over. I called and spoke to someone there who repeatedly accused me of failing to follow directions and not responding to emails. JustCloud's website states that if a cancellation is requested within 3 days of the account being opened, the charges would be refunded. Instead, they refused telling me that they would issue only a partial refund. While I never made use of their services, I would not trust their technical support after going through what I did with their customer service reps and their alleged "cancellation team". They do not follow their own policies in dealing with customers, they take literally weeks to repond to a ticket, and they take advantage of customers, even cancer patients when they have the opportunity to. Not a company I would do business with or would recommend to anyone.

I should have read these reviews

Just Cloud provides computer backup in the cloud. It never worked on my iPad and I asked for the 'anytime money back guarantee' refund and a cancellation of my account. Instead, after acknowledging my request, they tried to sell me more products. I said to just cancel it. Instead, they submitted a charge to my bank account, placing a hold on $119.28. I called the same day and asked them to rescind the hole. The operator said they could refund the money, but not undo the hold. I asked to speak to a supervisor. None available on Sunday. I called the bank and they gave me a code and a fax number Just Cloud could use to lift the hold. So I called today, and got the same run around. Still no supervisor available. I left my number to have one call me back. No call yet. The money isn't scheduled to come out of my account until tomorrow, so they have plenty of time to rectify their error. I don't expect them to. I finally found an email for their sales director and emailed her, too. No response. Very very poor product and very very very poor customer service. I think they are located in the UK but I can find NO information about this.

Avoid

Please be aware the whole company is a scam. I had 250Gb for 54£ a year. and this does not allow you to upload any video files you have to pay extra (or manually change extensions of your video files), same for files over 1GB. They claim fastest upload but again for an extra you can get even faster one. If you want to sync more than once a day you need to pay extra. Their service is full of little "extras" that you have to pay additional charges. When i tried to cancel by sending them email (there is no option on the website) saying "please cancel my account and refund" they offered me some extras for free, i said "no, please cancel and refund" they said what about if we give more extras for free? i said "no, please cancel and refund" again. So now they sent me a link! to cancel my account also saying in the email "By not replying your ticket will remain on hold and we will not know you wish to receive refund." ..... i hope i got the picture. Do not use! Edit: there is a cancellation charge of £15 as well. As soon as i requested a confirmation of this charge i got put on hold and after this they have refunded the full amount. Very misleading company.
