The DynaMo's Den website is aimed at parents who want to help their children learn at home.
It is meant to be used in conjunction with TV programmes, books and videos as well as the internet, all of which is tied in to the National Curriculum. This isn't as expensive as it may sound, with the books priced at £3.50 each and the videos at £10, but the cost can mount up.
The site is easy to use. Beneath the activity window are the details of how to play the game or activity, what age each level is for and what will be learnt. The graphics are colourful and engaging. Tasks are straightforward and will be easy for any child familiar with using a PC, but they are perhaps a bit too simple. Neither of our young testers wanted to play an activity a second time, but the site kept them occupied for just over half an hour. They particularly enjoyed the quiz game Splat, but were encouraged to put in the wrong answer as that squirted slime at DynaMo. Elsewhere, correct answers receive a 'well done' and incorrect answers are buzzed, a level of feedback that the kids seemed to appreciate.
If you want to back up your child's schoolwork with a little additional learning at home, DynaMo's Den will do the trick, and it's free.
