GTA 5 for Xbox One & PS4 spotted on - but don't get your hopes up

Listings and box art for Grand Theft Auto V for the Xbox One and PS4 have appeared on Amazon's German website, but look little more than place holders

Listings and box art for Xbox One and PS4 versions of Rockstar's eagerly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 5 have appeared on Amazon's German website - despite the developers saying that no next-generation releases are planned for the foreseeable future.

The listings, still available through Google Cache despite Amazon taking them down overnight, show the now-familiar box art with Xbox One and PS4 logos, but should be taken with a pinch of salt - the PS4 image clearly shows an Xbox 360 hard disk on the cover.

With no seller information, it's impossible to tell whether the listings were put up as place holders by Amazon or as a prank by a third party seller. It's not uncommon for retailers to post place holder pages for major releases, but they are usually left inactive until the games have been confirmed by the developers.

Rockstar North's Phil Hooker has said that “Compared to GTA 4, [GTA 5] definitely feels ‘next-generation’ to us”, although company President Leslie Benzies has also hinted at next-generation versions in the past.

“We’ll get the current gen version out first and see what happens in the future".

Grand Theft Auto 5 is due to launch in the UK on the 17th of September, just two months before the Xbox One and PS4. It's expected to be the last major release of the current console generation, so although we expect next-generation versions of the game will appear eventually, don't expect it to happen any time soon.
