Razer is no stranger to gaming mice, having produced some absolute stunners in the past, but most have been aimed at right-handed users. The Taipan is an ambidextrous mouse that should appeal to left- as well as right-handers, thanks to its symmetrical profile.

With two extra programmable buttons on either side of the mouse, you'll have access to gaming shortcuts whether you choose to use the mouse on the left of your keyboard or the right, but you can't comfortably use both sets of buttons. The glowing Razer logo and illuminated scroll wheel are both unobtrusive for day-to-day tasks, and the hyper-sensitive 8,200dpi laser sensor is ready as soon as you fire up a game.

The mouse felt a little small for male hands, without enough room to keep all five fingers off the mouse mat, which could put off hardcore gamers. It's a fine mouse, but it's very expensive. The ambidextrous SteelSeries Xai Laser Mouse is better value.
