Microsoft Wireless Mouse 2000 review
Verdict:
The BlueTrack technology works on almost any surface, but it's only worth the premium if you're going to make use of it.

Our Rating
The Microsoft Wireless Mouse 2000 brings Microsoft's BlueTrack optical technology to a relatively cheap mouse. Bluetrack helps it work on virtually any surface - the box says it doesn't work on glass or mirrors, but we beg to differ. The mouse can be used in either hand, and has a comfortable rubberised finish around the edges where your thumb normally cradles the mouse.
The wheel has a rubber finish too, so your finger doesn't slip, but there aren't any incremental clicks as you scroll to help you gauge distance. You have to install Microsoft's IntelliPoint software to enable side-scrolling, and as there's no disc in the box you'll have to download this yourself.
Microsoft claims that two AA batteries will power the mouse for six months, and their weight gives it some appreciable heft. BlueTrack is very clever, and handy if you use your mouse on the sofa or on the move, but most people will be just as happy with Microsoft's Optical Mouse 2000 for around £10.
