Audible slashed to LESS than half price for Black Friday

New members get 4 months of Audible audiobooks for just £2.99 a month, a HUGE 60% saving

Amazon has already treated us to massive Black Friday savings on its in-house offerings, including Echo and Kindle devices, and it’s now slashed prices on another member of the family: Audible.

Audible normally gives you one audiobook per month for £7.99, but for Black Friday you get four months of audiobooks for just £2.99 a month. That saves you £20 over the four-month subscription.

This offer is only open to new Audible members. And if you have a trial membership, or you’ve cancelled your subscription within the last year, you’re sadly not eligible.

Another thing to be aware of: your subscription will automatically renew at the usual £7.99/mth when deal ends, so you’ll need to cancel after your four months if you don’t want to pay full price. OK, that’s the end of the small print.

Why we love Audible

Our reviewer gave Audible five stars in our in-depth review, and quite right too. Audible (which we can’t even write without hearing that soft, strong “Audible” voice in our heads) is the leading audiobook service by far, and it’s positively stuffed with high-quality content. If you want an audio version of your favourite book or your latest must-read, you’re almost guaranteed to find it here.

Quality is right up there with quantity, with many audiobooks narrated expertly by their authors or by leading actors. You can browse and search the Audible website or app without subscribing, so have a dig around and listen to some samples.

You’ll find Elton John narrating his autobiography, Bob Mortimer narrating his novel The Satsuma Complex, Andy Serkis narrating the Lord of the Rings trilogy… and that’s just scratching the surface. Click any author or narrator to disappear down a fabulous rabbit hole of their other work.

The app is really easy to use, too. The search functions and library management are excellent, and innovative features include wish lists, gift subscriptions and your listening history.

How does Audible work?

Audible is a subscription service with a pretty simple setup. You automatically get one monthly credit, which you can exchange for a download of any audiobook from the vast collection. The download is yours to keep forever, but you can only play it in the Audible app or website, which works on pretty much any device with an internet connection.

Unlike some credit-based subscriptions, Audible rolls over your unused credits, so you don’t have to rush to spend them before the month is up. Audible members can also download as many free podcasts and Audible Originals as they want.

You can buy additional audiobooks each month if you like, but the prices can be a bit hair-raising. So we’d stick to using the monthly credit, as well as the members-only freebies.

If you have a Kindle, you get the additional treat of being able to swap from reading to listening without losing your place – something we wish we could do with paper books. Buying a book on Kindle doesn’t automatically gift you the matching audiobook or vice versa, but Amazon does let you buy audiobooks at lower prices if you already own the Kindle version.
