- It’s “a more powerful Kärcher alternative” according to our expert
Pressure washers are in high demand right now, as the weather improves and we all start eyeing our mossy driveways. Amazon’s Spring Sale is therefore impeccably timed: although top-rated brand Kärcher isn’t running any discounts we think are worthwhile, rival Nilfisk has an excellent discount on its powerful Core 140 pressure washer.
Right now at Amazon, you can pick up the Nilfisk Core 140 for just £166, down from a 180-day average of £183 and an RRP of £226. That’s the best price we’ve seen since Black Friday 2025 – here’s why you should forget Kärcher.
What makes the Nilfisk Core 140 better than a Kärcher?
1. The hose
I have a Kärcher K4 – the closest rival to the Core 140 – and my biggest gripe is with the hose. The material has a memory, which means it resists your best efforts to unwind and straighten it – during use, the hose will pretty much constantly try its hardest to tip the machine over.
The Nilfisk Core 140 sidesteps the issue with an UltraFlex hose, which is softer and fabric-reinforced. No battling with a pipe that has a mind of its own here. Our reviewer Stuart Andrews also noted that the Nilfisk Core 140 has a hose reel built-in, which Karcher pressure washers do not. It’s both tidy and stress-free.
To be clear, Kärcher has since introduced its own Flex hose, which is significantly less prone to irritating behaviour. But not every model in the range has this feature, whereas Nilfisk’s entire range uses UltraFlex technology.
2. The power
This is a pretty simple equation: the Kärcher K4 tops out at 130 bar, while the Nilfisk manages 140 bar. Flow rate is also higher on the Nilfisk – 474l/hr versus 420l/hr on the Kärcher. That means more oomph for your cleaning tasks.
Our expert noted the difference: “the Core 140 can tackle pretty much anything you throw at it, from a muddy quad-bike to larger cars and campervans, and algae and moss-stained decking, too.
In fact, you need to be a little more careful about its power settings when you’re using the rough, rotary jet attachment, since it can chew through soft timbers or old tarmac.”
3. The build quality
Our expert Stuart Andrews noted the robustness of the Nilfisk Core 140 – although the case is plastic, the internal pump is aluminium, whereas the pump on the Karcher K4 is made of a high-grade plastic. Aluminium is obviously the more resilient material, handling temperature and pressure changes more cannily than the Karcher’s plastic. To be fair, both pressure washers will stand the test of time, but one particularly vicious winter could be the difference between the two models.
You’d need to fork out serious money on a Karcher K5 for an aluminium pump – or, you know, pick up the Nilfisk for £166 in the Amazon Spring Sale.
