However, the P50t-10U was very comfortable to use for everyday tasks. The full-size keyboard gave a good level of feedback despite the worrying amount of flex in the keyboard tray, and there’s enough room for a numeric keypad as well. The large all-in-one touchpad is also very responsive and we had no trouble at all using it to navigate through files on our desktop.

As the P50t-10U doesn’t have to concentrate on portability, there’s a plentiful supply of connection ports. There’s a total of four USB ports, two of which are USB3, a VGA output for connecting the laptop to an external display, an HDMI output that supports Ultra HD resolutions, a multiformat card reader, a Gigabit Ethernet port, separate headphone and microphone jacks and a DVD optical drive. The P50t-10U’s has Harmon Kardon integrated speakers. With plenty of bass and volume to be found, they’re certainly above par for laptop speakers, but they won’t replace a dedicated sound system.

The Toshiba Satellite P50t-10U is a good general-purpose laptop, but at this price we expect the very best performance. With its lacklustre screen and underwhelming processing power, we’d prefer laptops such as the Best Buy-winning MSI CX61, which is more powerful but costs a lot less.
