Samsung Galaxy S6 & S6 Edge launch: Best UK contract deals

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge hands on hero

We take you through the best contract deals on the newly launched Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge smartphones

The Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge are now on sale, and the UK’s big mobile networks are making a grab for your cash with tempting deals on both phones with oodles of 4G data, texts and minutes available. Here, we detail the best six deals from each carrier, giving you a good idea of what to expect. Prices fluctuate all the time, but the same general priciples apply for each network, even if the prices shift a little.

Before delving into the deals, be sure to take a look at our Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge reviews to find out which handset is right for you. If you don’t have the budget for these latest handsets, the still-excellent Galaxy S5 is coming down price, so take a look at our S6 vs S5 review to see whether you can cope with buying the older phone.

If you don’t want to be locked into a two-year contract, several retailers are selling the S6 and S6 Edge SIM-free, including Carphone Warehouse (S6 only, £600) and Expansys (£695 for the S6 Edge and £599 for the S6). Our tables below only account for the 32GB S6 and the 64GB S6 Edge. Upgrading to the 64GB S6 typically adds £5 to a monthly contract, and the 128GB model another £5. The same applies to the S6 Edge.

Vodafone

Vodafone has several different pricing structures including Red Value, Red and Standard. All of these plans include 4G data. Standard is the simplest, including just what’s stated in terms of calls, texts and data. Red gives you unlimited calls and texts as standard. Red Value gets you all of the above and access to Vodafone’s EU roaming service EuroTraveller. It also gets you 2 years of Spotify, NowTV or Sky Sports Mobile.

We’ve included the cheapest of each of its bundles for the S6 and S6 Edge. Upgrading to the 128GB S6 Edge will add £5 or £6 a month to Red and Red Value contracts, and also nets you a bit more data.

Unless you’re a very light data user, the Red Value contracts, while more expensive over two years, present better value thanks to their generous data allowance and included Spotify/NowTV/Sky Sports extras.

EE

EE’s plans all include 4G and it has two different branded plans for the S6 and S6 Edge. 4G is its basic plan, which has smaller upfront costs but more expensive monthly bills. 4GEE Extra is cheaper month-by-month but you’ll pay a little extra upfront. You also get “double speed” in areas where this is available, and you’re able to use your minutes and texts in the EU.

4GEE Extra typically offers the best value over the course of a two-year contract. We’ve selected two 4GEE Extra (one of which is ‘recommended’ by EE)  and one 4G contract for each phone to give you a taste of what you can expect.

Three

Three’s plans are fairly straightforward. They all include 4G and, at least the ones “recommended on Three’s site”, all start with an upfront payment of £49. You also get free 0800 number calls and Feel at Home roaming deals in 18 countries.

O2

O2’s plans are straightforward, too, with the added caveat of a free FitBit Charge band if you order either phone online before May 6th. Upfront costs can be fairly steep, but monthly costs are pretty reasonable, making O2 one of the cheaper options out there for big-data contracts. Their fairly absurd 20GB deals are reasonably impressive, although they do come with costly upfront fees.
