Miele G7310 SC AutoDos review: Class-leading performance, eye-watering price

Our Rating :
Price when reviewed : £1199

A stunning dishwasher with exemplary cleaning and energy efficiency, but that excellence doesn't come cheap

Pros

  • Superb washing and drying
  • Easy to set up and use
  • Quiet and cheap to run

Cons

  • Expensive

The very thought of spending over £1,000 on a dishwasher is enough to spur most of us into volunteering to do the dishes. The Miele G7310 SC AutoDos, however, might just be brilliant enough to change your mind: it’s a nigh-on perfect example of why some appliances are worth paying a premium for.

Suffice to say, this full-sized dishwasher is a whisper-quiet marvel which manages to tackle the toughest baked-on foodstuffs while keeping energy consumption incredibly low. There are few, if any, rivals which can match the Miele’s performance, and with reliability a brand strongpoint it’s only the high price that counts against it.

What do we love about the Miele G7310 SC AutoDos?

Incredible cleaning results: It’s not often that our testing team finds it difficult to say anything bad about a product, but the Miele’s performance really is beyond reproach. Items come out sparkling clean every time, and the highly effective drying cycle means that everything comes out completely drip-free. Even the gimmicky-sounding AutoDos function is well implemented, and it’s genuinely helpful to be able to put one detergent puck in and not have to worry about refills for 20 or so washes.

Easy to use and load/unload: When it comes to something as simple as dishwashers, it’s amazing how badly thought out the controls can be – not to mention how awkward they can be to load and unload. For something you use every day, this can be a huge annoyance. Miele, on the other hand, has clearly done its research – the G7310 SC’s touch-sensitive buttons are sensibly labelled and easy to use, and the iOS and Android apps provide a host of genuinely helpful remote control features.

Brilliant basket design: The Miele doesn’t disappoint when it comes to its internal design, either. The baskets are second to none for both simplicity of loading and unloading, as well as all-round adjustability. The 3D MultiFlex cutlery tray isn’t just a fancy-sounding marketing buzzword, either, as the ability to slide, raise and adjust the two sections provides enough flexibility to accommodate an unusually generous amount of cutlery and crockery, as well as taller glasses in the tray below.

Genuinely whisper-quiet: We’ve heard too many appliance manufacturers claim that their appliances are quieter than quiet to take any at their word, but the Miele was so quiet in our tests that we often weren’t even able to hear it at all. If you prize peace and quiet in your kitchen, that’s a huge plus point.

SolarSave feature is a great idea: If your household has a solar heat system, heat pump or a gas-oil heating system, it’s possible to connect the G7310 SC AutoDos directly to a hot water supply for ultra-low running costs. Miele claims that this reduces electricity consumption to 0.05kWh per wash cycle.

What don’t we like about the Miele G7310 SC AutoDos?

It’s very expensive: We’ve reviewed dishwashers which perform well for a third of the price, so it’s very much a question of whether you can afford to buy the best. The Miele’s handsome looks, top-notch performance and low running costs put it head and shoulders above the competition – but the cost is, quite understandably, likely to put off many people.
