The supremely affordable Hive Thermostat Mini just hit its lowest price ever for Amazon's October Prime Day sale
Things are heating up with Amazon’s second Prime Day sale of 2022, with the price of the Hive Mini smart thermostat plummeting like the temperatures outside. Already boasting the label of British Gas’ most affordable smart thermostat, the Hive Mini is even more of a bargain now that it has dropped down to just £95 – its cheapest price on record.
The idea, of course, is that the savings won’t end there, with the greater control over your heating allowing you to cut back on unnecessary expenditures. And in a time when energy prices are skyrocketing all across the country, this is a bargain investment.
Despite being one of the most affordable smart thermostats that you can buy right now, the Hive Mini doesn’t scrimp on quality. Trading in the protruding knob of the main Hive thermostat, the Mini features a fully touch-controlled interface for a sleeker, more discreet design. This slim-down does sacrifice the expansive controls offered by the bigger model, but since you can perform all the same actions in the Hive app, this isn’t much of a loss.
The model featured here bundles together both the receiver and hub – anyone with a preexisting smart heating system can buy the thermostat by itself, but customers new to Hive will need this set. It’s also worth bearing in mind that you’ll probably want to pay for professional installation, so factor in another £100 to get it set up properly.
Once installed, you can use the app to turn your heating on and off, from wherever you are, as well as setting up schedules, which can be as complicated or as simple as you want. In practice, this means allocating slots, each with a start time, end time and target temperature. Other smart features include compatibility with Alexa, HomeKit and Google Assistant, so you can set up more complex automations, and a geolocation setting that will turn the heating off when you leave home, and vice versa.
One of the best things about the Hive Thermostat Mini is that it can be expanded after the fact to facilitate a wider range of smart features and multi-room control. With the former, you can connect other smart hardware, such as light bulbs or motion detectors, and tie them all together with “actions”, which allow you to put your lights on a schedule or trigger certain things when motion is detected or a door is opened.
The Mini is also compatible with Hive’s Radiator Valves, which allow you to set unique schedules for individual rooms, such as boosting your bedroom radiator just before you wake up or making the living room nice and toasty for an evening in front of the TV. The only downside here is that the radiator valves do add considerably to the overall cost.
