Organising a wedding can be incredibly stressful. Finding a venue, getting everything set up, sending out invites and so on is a significant undertaking – and it can all quickly pile up if you’re not careful. And something that you can’t afford to overlook is wedding gifts.
As a guest, you may see a wedding list attached to an invitation that details what the happy couple would like to receive on the big day. It’s become such a common practice that companies have created entire services to facilitate the demand. One such company is Amazon.
Customers can make use of its Amazon Wedding List feature to help curate and publish their list online for people to find. It makes sense to create a wedding list using Amazon, considering that it’s one of the largest online retailers out there. But how does Amazon Wedding List work? We’ve created this handy article to answer that very question.

Amazon Wedding List: What is it exactly?
Essentially, an Amazon Wedding List is just a fancier version of an Amazon wish list, which lets you create a collection of products you want. This list is then made public for others to find on Amazon when searching for your account. They can then purchase items on that list for you.
How to create an Amazon Wedding List
To create an Amazon Wedding List, you’ll need an Amazon account, if you haven’t got one already. Once you do, go to the Wedding List page on Amazon’s website and click the option to “Create a Wedding List”. From there, just follow the instructions to set up your delivery preferences.
Once that’s finished, you can then start searching for items on Amazon in the same way you usually would when shopping on the site. If you’ve found an item that you want to add to your list, click the “Add to Wedding List” button that’s just under the option to buy the product. This can be found on the right-hand side of the screen near the top of the page.
After you’ve done that, it’ll show up in your Amazon Wedding List and will be visible for others to see as well, allowing them to select what gifts to get you for your wedding.

How to share an Amazon Wedding List
So you’ve created a wedding list, but that doesn’t mean much if your guests can’t find it. To share your list, you have to do one of two things. Your first option is to copy the URL of your wedding list at the top of the page and share it with your guests. That way, they’ll be taken straight to it when they type or copy and paste it into a search browser.
Your second option is to click on the sharing links button at the top of your wedding list. This will allow you to share it through email, Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest.
How to edit an Amazon Wedding List after it’s been published
You can edit three separate categories in your Amazon Wedding List. Firstly, you can delete an item you no longer want. Go to your wedding list, find the item you want to remove and click “Edit details”, which gives you the option to get rid of the product.
Secondly, you can change the quantity of an item you’ve got your eye on. So, if you want multiple versions of the same thing, click on “Edit details” and enter the amount you want before saving those changes.
Finally, you can mark an item as purchased. While items that are purchased by guests are handled automatically, you can still do it yourself. To do so, you need to view your account as a guest and click on “Edit details”. An option to select “Let the couple know you’ve purchased this gift” will appear. Select that option and you’ll be good to go.
What happens to purchased items on the wedding list?
There’s no need to worry about every single guest buying you the cheapest item on your wedding list (much to the annoyance of toaster makers everywhere, we’re sure). Once an item has been bought by someone using the wedding list function, it’ll be classed as purchased and cannot be selected by people viewing your list from that point on.
If, however, the item is purchased through the product page itself, rather than your wedding list, it won’t be labeled as purchased. As such, it’s probably worth mentioning this to your guests to avoid getting multiple versions of the same item.
How to find and buy items from someone’s wedding list
If you follow this link, you’ll be presented with the option to find someone’s wedding list by typing in their name or the title of their list. Once you’ve found the list, you’ll be able to narrow down your search by selecting categories such as price, priority and whether or not the items you’re looking at have already been purchased by someone else.
Having found an item you’re happy with, all you have to do is purchase it like you would a normal Amazon product. Add it to your basket through the wedding list rather than the product page itself, proceed to checkout and follow the instructions to complete your order. After purchasing the item, it’ll be delivered to the address specified in the wedding list. The creator of the list may also be given your full name and address upon delivery.
