Wait, what happens to my audiobooks if I cancel my subscription?

Purchased audiobooks will remain in your online Audible library, and can be downloaded across multiple devices even if you don’t have a membership subscription.

How to cancel your Audible subscription

  1. You’ll first need to go to the desktop site for Audible.
  2. Go to the Account Details page. You’ll be taken straight to the membership details section.
  3. At the bottom of this page is an option to “Cancel membership”.
  4. You’ll face a warning about losing your credits when you cancel. If you do have credits, it is definitely worth using them to purchase an audiobook before going any further. While you can listen to purchased audiobooks after cancelling a subscription, you won’t be able to spend credits.
  5. By continuing to cancel membership you’ll be asked for a reason why. Depending in your answer, you may be offered an incentive to stay on. Select ‘it’s too expensive’, for example, and you’ll be given the option of a voucher or some credit.
  6. If you stick to your guns and say “Cancel anyway“, you’ll then be able to end the subscription.
  7. When this has been done successfully, you should receive an automated email as proof of the change to your plan.

If you’d like to take a break from an Audible membership, but don’t want to outright cancel, there’s alternatively the option to put your subscription on hold. This can be done once every 12 months, from anywhere between one and three months.

To do this, you can either follow the above instructions until you’re given the option to pause membership, or you can contact Audible customer service, which can be done via the company’s website.
