Fairly expensive for the web space provided, but it's not a bad choice for complete novices. The Standard version is better value, though.

Mr Site is very similar in approach to Jimdo. For £100 you get the Pro account, which includes a year’s worth of web hosting and a site builder that’s far better than those of the more traditional hosting packages.

A traditional hosting service concentrates on things like back-end script support, database hosting and so on – those are the kinds of things that differentiate one package from another. With Mr Site, you pay the same as you would for a more fully-featured package, but what you’re really paying for is the better-than-average site builder and the package’s overall ease of use.

Using the site builder, a complete novice will relatively quickly be able to put together a good-looking site of anything up to 99 pages. And once you’ve got your site looking the way you want it, there’s no need to faff around with FTP uploads or anything else that absolute beginners might find intimidating. You simply press publish and in a few seconds your site is online.

The trade-off is that you get less for your money in other ways. For example, the 600MB of web space is stingy, and could prove a problem if you want to host lots of videos and photos. On the plus side, bandwidth is unlimited and the account includes a .com domain name, up to 50 email inboxes, an online shop with integrated PayPal and interactive widgets such as a forum, a blog and a photo gallery. Few people choosing this type of package will want script support, but it’s good that JavaScript is supported.

Our reservations about Mr Site were exactly the same as those we had about Jimdo. Compared to the more traditional hosting packages you don’t get much for your money. If you’re looking for lots of server space and the back-end support you need to create a complex database-driven site then Mr. Site isn’t for you. If you just want to get online with a site that looks good enough to do you credit , and you don’t want the hassle or fuss of having to learn about web design, then this is an easy way to get the job done.

All the same, even taking this into account, for £8 a month we’d have expected a bit more server space. However, don’t overlook MrSite’s Standard package, which costs £2.99 per month with 150MB of web space and a 2GB monthly bandwidth limit.
