Lookout Security & Antivirus review

We aren’t sure the photo backup tool is worth paying for – if you’re already using Dropbox or any other photo uploading tool, you’ll already have a backup of your snaps without needing Lookout as well. It works effectively, letting you access your images through the Lookout website, but it’s no better than the host of existing apps already on the Play store.

You can run most of Lookout’s features from your phone or through its easy-to-use website – you log in to both with the same username and password, both have a status log that shows you what the app has been doing and its status icons let you know whether there’s anything to worry about at a glance. It’s simple, straightforward and much less intimidating than other Android security apps we’ve seen in the past.

The good news is that we didn’t experience any degraded performance or increased battery consumption on the HTC One X we used to test the app – thanks to its seamless integration and minimal device footprint, we can’t think of a reason not to have some type of malware protection service such as Lookout installed on your Android phone.

Considering you can download Lookout for free on the Google Play Store there’s very little reason not to add it to your phone – it provides peace of mind that you won’t fall victim to an SMS scam simply for downloading apps from the Play Store, and that you’ll be able to find your phone should you lose it. We aren’t sure that the premium services are worth paying for, unless you want to be absolutely sure you can wipe your phone should it fall into the wrong hands, but for a free app there’s very little not to like.
