Kingston's latest SSD is fast and comes with everything you need, but its comparatively low capacity and high price make it a poor choice for most laptop owners.

Specifications

128GB sata solid state disk

Kingston's latest 128GB 2.5in solid state disk (SSD) for laptops comes with a comprehensive kit of accessories. A USB 2.5in disk enclosure and disk imaging software are included for copying all your files from your existing hard disk to the SSD, before fitting the SSD in your laptop.

The enclosure then lets you reuse your old internal hard disk as a portable USB disk. There are also drive rails and screws for mounting the SSD in a 3.5in drive bay.

We were also greatly impressed with the SSDNow's file copying performance. It's faster than any traditional 2.5in or 3.5in hard disk, or any other SSD we've seen.

Our test laptop's battery even lasted 30 minutes longer with the SSDNow fitted, although there were only negligible improvements in boot and hibernation times. SSDs are considerably more accident-proof than a standard disk, and it's this added data security that is the key reason to invest in one.

Kingston's 128GB SSDNow is very fast with a well thought-out selection of accessories. However, like all current SSDs it's cramped compared to traditional hard disks, and costs an exorbitant £2 per gigabyte. Still, if you need very fast file copying, a longer battery life and added piece of mind, then this is the SSD to buy.
