Black Friday is traditionally a time to save a ton of money on big-ticket items, and Cyber Monday is no different. But the deals season can also be a great opportunity to invest in a bargain that will save you cash in the year ahead, such as this ludicrously cheap SIM-only deal from iD Mobile.
Right now, you can get unlimited UK calls and texts along with a whopping 250GB of 5G data on a 12-month contract for the insanely low price of just £7.50/mth. There is a bit of work required to get this bargain price but it saves you so much in the long run that it’s worth putting the effort in.
To start with, you’ll be paying £14/mth for this bundle, with the discount applied via cashback redemption. To claim the money off, you’ll need to send iD Mobile your phone bill at months 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 (don’t worry, there’s a step-by-step guide on the website if you get stuck). As mentioned, this is a bit of a grind, but in total, it will save you £78 across the year, bringing the lifetime cost down to just £90. For a massive 250GB of data, that’s an outstanding bargain.
So, why should you opt for a SIM-only contract instead of one that comes with a new handset? Well, first of all, there may be nothing wrong with your current handset, so there’s no point in forking out on something new that you don’t need. If you do need a new phone, buying the handset outright can be cheaper in the long run, and also saves you from being locked into a two-year contract – this way, you can change your service if you need to after just one year.
This offer comes as little surprise, as the excellent value of its SIM-only deals was one of the things we praised the network for in our recent iD Mobile review. As a virtual network operator running over Three’s 4G and 5G network host, iD Mobile is beholden to Three’s network coverage. Luckily, this has seen significant improvements over the last year, with 5G speeds in particular on the rise. Even better, iD Mobile doesn’t charge users for roaming, allowing you to use all your texts, minutes and data when travelling in the EU, albeit subject to a fair usage policy that’s based on the cost of your monthly plan.
All that is very positive, but it’s worth bearing in mind that iD Mobile isn’t perfect. Our annual survey saw the network deliver disappointing results when it came to customer service – though still better than its parent network, Three – and mediocre scores for connection reliability. While both of these are important to bear in mind, the odds of them affecting your daily use are relatively low, so that shouldn’t stop you from taking advantage of this offer.
