DEAL OF THE WEEK: Get a HUGE gift card with this TalkTalk broadband plan

This is one of the best freebies around at the moment: if you sign up for TalkTalk’s Full Fibre 150 plan (which gets you an average download speed of 152Mbits/sec) for a competitive £30/mth on an 18-month plan, you’ll be treated to a £50 gift card to spend at shops such as Sainsbury’s, Tesco, H&M and Amazon. There are a couple of caveats, however: we only gave TalkTalk three stars out of five in our in-depth review and prices may rise during the contract.

What is TalkTalk like as an internet service provider?

In our in-depth review, we gave TalkTalk broadband three stars out of five. The service is noted for its impressive full-fibre performance, offering solid Wi-Fi 6 routers on the fastest connections and a more extensive full-fibre footprint than many competitors. TalkTalk was also highly commended for the reliability of its service, with 78% of customers expressing satisfaction in our annual survey.

TalkTalk’s broadband options include Fast Broadband, Fibre 35, and Fibre 65, along with a range of full-fibre tariffs like Full Fibre 65, 150, 500, and 900. These packages offer various speeds at different price points, with the faster options providing more advanced router hardware. However, the pricing strategy and value proposition have been a point of criticism, especially in comparison to competitors such as Plusnet.

Coverage-wise, TalkTalk relies primarily on the Openreach network, ensuring a wide reach across the population. Additionally, deals with CityFibre and Community Fibre extend its reach, particularly for high-speed products in certain areas.

A major detractor for TalkTalk is its customer service. A significant portion of customers expressed dissatisfaction with the service they received, with TalkTalk attracting a higher number of complaints per 100,000 customers than the industry average according to Ofcom. This aspect of service was particularly impactful on customer recommendations, with only 12% of customers saying they were very likely to recommend TalkTalk.

We concluded that, while TalkTalk’s pricing is no longer the cheapest and its customer service needs improvement, the addition of Eero router hardware on its fastest lines is a positive development. To be more competitive, TalkTalk needs to enhance its overall service quality.

The monthly price shown will increase each April by the Retail Price Index rate of inflation plus 3.7%.
