Chromebooks have quickly asserted themselves as the ideal choice for students, or anyone looking for a low-cost, lightweight laptop for daily use. We’ve reviewed a lot of Chromebooks over the years, and we can confidently say that as of right now, Google’s Pixelbook Go is the best of the bunch. In fact, it’s one of the best laptops you can buy for under £1,000.

When we reviewed it, we did find the Google Pixelbook Go to be a tad expensive, but that concern has now been alleviated by a sizeable discount at John Lewis. Open to both new and existing customers, this deal offers a massive £250 off the Pixelbook Go to anyone who has a My John Lewis account. Even better, the stunning Chrome OS laptop comes with a two-year guarantee included.

If you already have an account, just make sure that you’re signed in and then enter the code ‘MYJLGOOGLE250’ when checking out with the 128GB Pixelbook Go. If you don’t have an account yet, you can follow this link to sign up for free and then follow the above steps to avail of the discount.

While the price reduction is obviously the biggest reason to get excited, it is worth reiterating that you’re getting an absolutely fantastic laptop for your money.

For something designed to be portable, one of the key factors of a Chromebook is the battery life, and here the Pixelbook Go certainly doesn’t disappoint. Lasting over 14 hours in our tests, the Pixelbook Go completely obliterated the competition, and the fact that you can charge it via USB-C makes it even more versatile.

Another feature we adored about the Pixelbook Go is the keyboard. Delightful to type on, the key action is light, quiet and well-dampened, but still positive enough to make keypresses satisfying. Design-wise, the keys are nice and large, so the touch typists among you can let your fingers fly with minimal risk of typos.

Under its sleek-yet-solid chassis, the 128GB Chrome OS laptop features an 8th gen Intel i5 processor and 8GB of RAM. While naturally not as zippy or powerful as laptops featuring Intel’s latest 11th gen processors, or models with a higher RAM capacity, we still found that the Pixelbook Go was more than capable of keeping multiple tabs and Google Sheets open and running with no problems at all.

The biggest disappointment of the Pixelbook Go – at least, as far as this model is concerned – is the display. To be clear, it’s not a bad display as far as Chromebooks go, the 13.3in panel is perfectly sharp and capable of reasonable brightness levels.

The problem is that the high-end i7 iteration comes with a 4K “Molecular Display”, while the lower-end models all use a 1080p. What’s here is perfectly serviceable, except perhaps in direct sunlight, but it would have been nice to have an option that pairs a 4K display with lower power processors.
