Based on the novel by Stephen King and adapted for television by Richard Price, American psychological thriller The Outsider has been called a “slow burn” by many, but you can now watch all episodes of season one as fast as you like.
The series is currently available to watch on Sky Atlantic and its a-la-carte streaming service Now TV Entertainment Pass (which comes with a seven-day free trial for new customers). Alternatively, you can also watch it on Hulu in both the UK and US (again, this has a monthly free trial for new subscribers).
The miniseries centres on a small town in Oklahoma, where the mutilated body of 11-year-old Frankie Peterson is discovered. In the ensuing investigation – led by detective Ralph Anderson (Ben Mendelsohn) – local little league coach and teacher Terry Maitland (Jason Bateman) is arrested for the murder of Peterson.
But when contradicting evidence arises that suggests his being in two places at once, Maitland’s guilt is thrown into doubt. Over the course of the investigation, it transpires that a more sinister supernatural force is involved, as a deformed hooded figure lurks in the background.
