AMEX holders can get £100 cashback at Microsoft

If you’ve been eyeing Surfaces or a new Xbox One X, now could be a good time

If you have an American Express card, you’ll be familiar with the ‘offers’ section of your account. If you’re not, you really should be: there are a bunch of rotating discounts and cashback offers that you can save to your card and will automatically trigger when you meet the requirements. I had some decent savings back in the days when I was an AMEX cardholder.

Right now, there’s a doozie of an offer available: if you spend £400 or more at the Microsoft Store, you can get £100 cashback in statement credit. It’s available to the first 10,000 card members to save it to their card, so go add it now.

Once it’s added, it’s time to go shopping on the Microsoft Store. Obviously you could buy the excellent Surface Laptop 2 (starting at £979) or the Surface Pro 6 (from £879), but perhaps the best way of getting discounted bang for your buck is to buy an Xbox One X Metro Saga Bundle.

This actually comes in at £399: tantalisingly close to, but just under, the £400 spend required, so be sure to add something cheap when you build your bundle – three months of Xbox Live Gold for £8.99, maybe. Alternatively, you could buy a cheaper £229 Xbox One S bundle and then load up on extra accessories, controllers and games to hit the £400 mark.

Sadly, it just seems to be the Xbox bundles on sale at the moment (although the Xbox Spring Sale is in full swing), but it’s possible that could change before the offer expires on 26 May. It doesn’t hurt to add the offer to your card, and then check in occasionally to see what’s been reduced, in any case: there’s no obligation to use it once added, after all.
