Brand-new 16in MacBook Pro sees PRICE DROP

It’s still very expensive, but if you’re set on the new MacBook Pro, this is as good as it gets

Have you been eyeing up the new 16in MacBook Pro, but been left cold by the ridiculously high price of entry? Yes, any laptop that starts at £2,399 isn’t exactly budget territory, but for some people only a MacBook will do – and only a big-screen Mac at that.

For those people, let me show you the latest offer from BT Shop, where both the i7 and i9 flavours of 16in MacBook Pros have discounts of over £200 already.

First up, the ‘entry-level’ model with a hepta-core 2.6GHz i7 processor, 16GB of RAM and 512GB storage is on offer for £2,179. The price via Apple is £2,399.99, so you’re looking at a solid saving of £220.99 if only macOS will do.

Then there’s the pro’s version of the 16in MacBook Pro. The octa-core 2.3GHz i9 model with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage is selling for £2,539.68. Again, that’s a huge amount of cash, but Apple currently wants £2,799.99 for the same specced product, so you’re looking at a saving of £259.32. Not too bad.

What if you want similar grunt but don’t want to spend as much cash? Your best bet, in our view, is the Dell XPS 15 which is also on offer for Black Friday. Just add the code “BLACK15” at checkout, and you can get the 15.6in hepta-core i7 XPS 15 with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage for £1,700.

In our review of the 16in MacBook, head of reviews Jonathan Bray basically admits that the Dell XPS 15 is considerably better value: “Objectively, the Dell XPS 15 2019 makes more financial sense: if you buy one with a similar spec to my review model, in fact, you’ll be saving around £1,000,” he writes. “But there’s no denying the quality of the MacBook Pro 16in. It’s a mighty fine machine, especially for the most demanding of users.”

If you’re after a beast of a laptop, there are two strong choices then. But at least you’ll be saving money whichever you opt for.
