Adobe CS5.5 launched with new iPad 2 apps

New release schedule announced along with subscription prices and iPad apps

The Media Encoder has been overhauled and supports more formats than ever (including AVC-Intra and DPX), and includes presets for those that don’t want to bother with bitrates and codecs. It’s also 64-bit, and introduces watch folders so single clips can be encoded to multiple formats via a simple drag and drop.

Adobe Audition makes a return to the suite, having been replaced by SoundBooth in CS5. It now works on Macs as well as PCs and has a brand new audio engine that supports multi-core processors. A new surround-sound mixer makes it easier to create surround sound, or downmix to stereo.

Pricing

The Master Collection will cost around £2,300, with Production Premium and Design Premium being around £800 cheaper at £1,500. Web Premium will be around £100 cheaper than that. Upgrade prices are naturally considerably cheaper.

Importantly, Adobe has announced a new subscription system, so you can own Photoshop CS5.5 for just £28 per month or the complete Master Collection for £116 per month. All packages are also available on a yearly plan. For details see Adobe’s website.
