It’s not cheap, but this energy-efficient heat pump tumble dryer is a fantastic buy all the same

  • Easy to use

Cons

  • Nothing

Bosch’s appliances are no stranger to accolades here at Expert Reviews, and now it’s the turn of one of the brand’s tumble dryers to take a bow. Thanks to its perfect drying skills and effective array of programmes, the Bosch Serie 6 WTWH7660GB is a very capable heat pump tumble dryer. It performed well across our range of tests, has some useful features and is modestly good looking to boot. The low running costs also mean that it’ll repay its relatively high initial price the longer you own it. If you’re looking for an efficient, attractive tumble dryer then look no further.

What do we love about the Bosch Serie 6 WTWH7660GB tumble dryer?

Good looks and simple controls: There’s really no such thing as a beautiful tumble dryer, but the Bosch’s simple, clean lines and silver trim make for a smart, understated appliance. The LED display is bright and easy to read, too, and looks just as swish as it should do when you’re spending this much money. Far more importantly, though, the LED display tells you everything you need to know at a glance, and the rotary dial and touch sensitive buttons alongside are easy to understand without requiring you to first read the manual.

Exemplary drying: There’s literally nothing to criticise here. The AutoDry function employs sensors to ensure that laundry is dried to perfection – not too much, not too little – and the range of programmes mean that the Bosch can tackle any load you can (gently) throw at it. Loading and unloading is a cinch thanks to the big door hatch, and the bright interior light means that you won’t accidentally end up leaving socks tucked away in the corner of the drum.

Wi-Fi control: We’ve used Bosch’s Home Connect app in tandem with various other home appliances and it doesn’t disappoint here. You can choose from the various drying programmes, monitor the progress of the drying cycle, and start and stop the machine from your smartphone or tablet. If you just want to throw some clothes in and close the door, this means you can set the dryer in motion from the comfort of your sofa.

Low running costs: Heat pump tumble dryers are routinely more energy efficient than their cheaper condenser dryer counterparts, and the Bosch is no exception. Even by the standards of heat pump dryers, however, the Bosch really does perform rather well, with running costs proving to be impressively low in our tests.

What don’t we like about the Bosch Serie 6 WTWH7660GB tumble dryer?

Nothing at this price: It might not be a stone cold bargain, but the £829 RRP is a very fair asking price for a machine of this quality. And given that it’s currently retailing for closer to £700, we wouldn’t hold out for any further big discounts. If your budget can stretch to it, buy one while they’re still in stock.
