How to watch The Handmaid’s Tale season 3 in the UK, US and abroad

Want to know how to watch the third season of The Handmaid's Tale? You've come to the right place

While it may be difficult to watch at times, The Handmaid’s Tale is still one of the most engaging shows currently on air and, if there’s one thing that TV audiences love, it’s dark and dramatic television.

So, when season 2 ended on numerous cliffhangers and hints of major developments to come, viewers had high expectations for season 3 when the season premiere aired in the UK on Sunday 9 June.

Adapted from Margaret Atwood’s novel of the same name, the new season of The Handmaid’s Tale will see the return of Elisabeth Moss as Offred/June, as she tries to destroy the Republic of Gilead once and for all.

With numerous Emmys and Golden Globes under its belt – including an Emmy for Best Drama – the show’s popularity and quality don’t seem to be slowing down any time soon and the events of season 3 are sure to continue that trend, picking up almost immediately from the end of season 2.

How to watch The Handmaid’s Tale season 3 in the UK: Channel 4

If you want to watch the third season of The Handmaid’s Tale, Channel 4 has you covered. The show airs new episodes each week on Sunday at 9pm on Channel 4.

It’s also important to know that Channel 4 is staggering the release of The Handmaid’s Tale in the UK. Is The Handmaid’s Tale on Netflix?

Since we know you’re wondering, no, The Handmaid’s Tale isn’t available on Netflix in any region. While you may be holding on to the hope that it might one day make its way to Netflix, it’s unlikely to happen anytime soon.

How to watch The Handmaid’s Tale wherever you are

If you’re not based in the UK and have been wondering how to watch The Handmaid’s Tale wherever you are, then you still have options. One such choice is the use of VPNs.

The gist of how a VPN works is this: usually when accessing a website, you will start by connecting to your internet service provider (ISP). This is how streaming services, like Netflix, identify the region you’re from and provide you with content that’s licensed specifically for that region.

With a VPN, however, you can essentially trick your computer into believing you’re from a different country entirely. This will allow you to watch any content that isn’t available for streaming in your region. If this sounds like something you’re interested in, we’ve picked some of the best VPNs for you to use.

What do we know about The Handmaid’s Tale season 4?

Season 3 has only just started but we can’t ignore the potential promise of a season 4. Season 1 and 2 both premiered in April 2017 and 2018 respectively, and the third season first aired in June 2019.

So, if season 4 is confirmed, it’s likely to release sometime between April and June 2020, before airing a few weeks later in the UK.

While it’s expected that the likes of Elisabeth Moss, Joseph Fiennes and Yvonne Strahovski would return as June, Commander Waterford and Serena Joy respectively, The Handmaid’s Tale is the type of show where anything can happen to anyone. Just look at Aunt Lydia at the end of season 2. Making any bets about who might return for a yet-to-be-announced season 4 could be a losing game.

One constant we can rely on, though, is the creator and showrunner of The Handmaid’s Tale, Bruce Miller, who has already envisioned the show being potentially ten seasons long, all with him at the helm.
