Adobe ups PDF security effort

Adobe is to begin releasing regular security patches for Reader and Acrobat, timed to coincide with Microsoft’s routine update.
In response to recent concerns from Microsoft and others about the security of its PDF products, Adobe said it plans quarterly updates that will be released on the second Tuesday of the month, the same day that Microsoft releases its Windows security updates.
“Starting this summer with the initial output of our security code hardening effort, we plan to release security updates for all major supported versions and platforms of Adobe Reader and Acrobat on a quarterly basis,” Adobe said on its Secure Software Engineering Team blog.
“Based on feedback from our customers, who have processes and resources geared toward Microsoft’s ‘Patch Tuesday’ security updates, we will make Adobe’s quarterly patches available on the same days.”
Adobe said it has also put measures in place to ensure that its users are aware sooner of security risks and to ensure that patches are available more quickly.
