TomTom combines satnav and radio
Posted on 20 Oct 2009 at 15:10
TomTom has announced a new satnav that includes a radio and iPod controls. The TomTom GO I-90 is a double-height unit that replaces the car's existing radio. The satnav part is removable, which means you can take it with you and even use it in other cars.
TomTom claims that the GO I-90 can be fitted into any car, although you'll need to make some adjustments if your in-car stereo is a single height (1 DIN) model. In fact, TomTom recommends that buyers employ a professional dealer, which will add to the cost. The GO I-90 itself will cost $599 (around £550) when it's released in Europe in December.
Bear in mind that the radio (FM and AM, but not DAB) does not include a CD player, so you'll need to invest in an iPod if you want to play your favourite music.
The GO I-90 has optional iPod support that allows it to control the music player using easily accessible controls and display which tracks are playing. It uses the car's existing speaker system and supports hands-free phone operation. The pack includes a map of Western Europe.
