There are loads of books about computer and network security, but what appeals about this one is that it's based on proper case studies. These provide a step-by-step guide to how a number of particular exploits work. The advantage of this approach is that you can do what I've done and try to break into your office network using the same methods. As decent security experts are both rare and expensive, learning about network security this way has to be good for you, your CV and your career prospects. However, if you don't own the company like I do then make sure you get permission before you try to break in or you might end up in a heap of trouble.
Defend IT includes fascinating chapters on information theft and the forensic techniques you could use to find out what, for example, an employee leaving for a new company might have been up to.
If you don't know the difference between an IP address and a MAC address then this book's probably not for you but, if you do, it's a good way of learning more about computer security.
