Sky Sports subscriptions can now be paused without a penalty fee

It’s got to the point where it’s more of a news story if big events aren’t being cancelled as coronavirus runs riot across the world. Sporting events were amongst the first things to go with the Premier League, English Football League, Euro 2020, the Grand National, Rugby Football Union and PGA Championships all being postponed until further notice.
If you’re paying £23 per month for Sky Sports, then the channel suddenly looks like very poor value – unless you’re a fan of watching presenters struggle to pad out their programmes or endless reruns.
Well good news and bad news: the good news is that Sky is now letting customers suspend their sports subscriptions without penalty. The bad news is that there’s no way to do this online at the time of writing.
“While we expect that many of the recently postponed sports events will eventually go ahead, if you wish to pause your sports subscription in the meantime you will not be charged a fee to do so or be held to any notice period,” the company stated “Meanwhile we continue to provide high quality content across all of our 11 sports channels.”
If that doesn’t sway you, you’ll be wanting to pause sooner rather than later, but as Sky explains elsewhere on the site, this isn’t a function that is currently available online. So you’d best give them a ring on 0333 7591 018.
While a lack of football, rugby and golf can be devastating to sports fans that were looking forward to getting some serious Sky Sports hours in during their enforced spell at home, there is good news elsewhere from Sky. Yesterday, the company announced that it had teamed up with NBCUniversal to stream new movie releases on the same day they appear in the (probably closed) cinemas.
The first movie to get the treatment will be Trolls World Tour, though a number of other recent releases will be arriving on demand sooner than you might imagine too, with The Hunt, The Invisible Man and Emma arriving on Friday from the Sky Store.
