Amazon is currently selling the South Korean manufacturer’s latest earbuds for £149, which is £70 off their RRP and £10 cheaper than they’ve been going for in recent months. You’ll need to be an Amazon Prime subscriber to take advantage of this lowest-ever price on the Galaxy Buds2 Pro, with a subscription costing £8.99/mth or £95 annually. We reviewed the Galaxy Buds2 Pro in September 2022 and were impressed by the improvements made to their predecessor’s active noise cancellation. While still not a match for the class-leading Bose QuietComfort Earbuds II, which have been reduced to £200 for Prime Day, they attenuate low-frequency sounds effectively and put a bit of a dent in mid-range environmental noise, too.
Their greatest strength lies in what’s unlocked when the buds are paired with one of Samsung’s more recent smartphones, however. Devices running One UI 4.0 and above can take advantage of the company’s new Seamless Hi-Fi codec, which is capable of transmitting 24-bit audio over Bluetooth.
360 Audio – Samsung’s answer to Apple’s Spatial Audio – and Head Tracking are both only available on Galaxy devices, while 360 Audio with Direct Multi-Channel, which applies spatial effects to content with 5.1, 7.1 or Dolby Atmos soundtracks, is only supported by Samsung devices running One UI 4.1 or later.
Those sonic features are all effective, with 360 Audio expanding the Buds2 Pro’s soundstage and adding a level of immersion the default sound signature lacks. That sound signature is a big step forward for Samsung, however, with the buds’ dynamic two-way driver setup an impressive amount of detail and plenty of low-end impact.
Additional features such as “Voice detect”, which automatically engages ambient sound mode when you start speaking, hands-free Bixby activation, and the ability to customise your experience using the Samsung Wearable companion app further sweeten the deal and earmark the Buds2 Pro as a great choice for those within the Samsung Galaxy ecosystem.
