Hive has cut the price of its Active Heating thermostat for Black Friday
You can save around £50 on the price of a smart thermostat, and get a free Amazon Echo Dot for your troubles, over on Hive ahead of Black Friday.
The cost of the Hive Active Heating thermostat has been cut from £199 to £149.25, if bought directly from the manufacturer. This panel can be used to control both your hot water and central heating, and connected to your smartphone to warm your house remotely and set up specific schedules.
We called the Hive Active Heating a “decent smart heating system that can expand to lighting and beyond”, praising its sophisticated accompanying app, if not totally won over by its features in comparison to competitors. With the new price tag, however, it’s certainly worth considering.
“Hive has improved dramatically since its launch and it’s nice to see the firm expanding the line-up of connected devices, so that the system is about more than just heating,” we said in our four-star review. “If you can get the thermostat on a good deal, perhaps through your heating provider, then it will do a good job for you.”
The Amazon Echo Dot, meanwhile, is the dinky smart speaker from the omnipresent technology giant. It’s a handy little gizmo with in-built Alexa functionality, as long as you’re comfortable with allowing Amazon’s marketing machine into your home:
“If you haven’t already tried a smart speaker, and aren’t creeped out by the whole listening device thing, then this is the entry-level product to buy,” we said in our five-star review. “It was already the best way of dipping a toe in the world of smart speakers, thanks to Google cheaping out on an audio port on the Home Mini, but now it’s even better.”
