Great service from a supplier offering more than just energy in one bill
Our rating
Pros
  • Offers multiple services, which can simplify your household bills
  • Resolves complaints quickly
  • Clear bills and an easy-to-use app and website
Cons
  • Not as trusted by customers as some of its rivals

Launched in 2002, Utility Warehouse now has more than a million customers. It’s one of Britain’s medium-sized energy suppliers, with a share of 3% of the home electricity market and 3% for gas.

As well as energy, Utility Warehouse offers broadband, mobile phone services, home insurance and a prepaid cashback card that rewards you for spending with it by giving you money off your Utility Warehouse bill. All your home services are bundled together into one bill.

It says its variable energy tariffs will always be cheaper than the energy price cap and gives you a discount on your energy bill if you switch one or more other services to Utility Warehouse, too. However, whether you can actually save will depend on how the cost of these other services compares to what you would pay elsewhere.

Utility Warehouse has an unusual business model where you can sign up as a “Partner” and earn money by recommending the supplier to people who then switch to it. You get a customer bonus when you sign someone up and then an ongoing percentage of their monthly bill.

It performed well in our Expert Reviews Energy Awards 2025, coming second overall and winning our Best Value, Best for Clear Billing and Best Website awards. It was also the joint-winner of the Best App award with Octopus Energy.

In our energy survey, 81% of its customers said they are extremely likely or likely to recommend it to others. Only the overall winner, Octopus Energy, beat this with 91%.

As well as variable and fixed energy tariffs that are guaranteed to be cheaper than the price cap, Utility Warehouse offers an EV tariff that gives you cheaper electricity between midnight and 5am.

Utility Warehouse was the top-rated supplier for value for money, with 40% of customers saying they were very satisfied with the value it offers – the highest percentage for this in our survey. This compares to 28% very satisfied for the next best supplier, Octopus.

In terms of customer trust, Utility Warehouse was the third most trusted in our survey, with 27% saying they completely trust it to act in their best interests. This compares to 30% for Octopus and British Gas.

Utility Warehouse was highly commended for its complaint handling in our awards. Some 28% of customers said they were very satisfied with this, while just 9% said they were dissatisfied or very dissatisfied. The provider was only a little way behind the winner, Octopus, which had 31% saying they were very satisfied.

Utility Warehouse has an excellent record for the speed at which it handles complaints, according to the latest data from the energy regulator Ofgem for the second quarter of 2025.

It had the highest number of complaints per 100,000 customer accounts of all the suppliers in our survey at 1,781; the lowest was 561 received by Octopus. However, it had the best results for resolving them, with 83% resolved by the end of the next working day and 100% within eight weeks.

Notes: Data is for the second quarter of 2025.

Bills were another area where Utility Warehouse performed well, with 40% of customers saying that they strongly agree their bills are clear and easy to understand. This compares to 30% for the second-best supplier, Octopus. The worst for this were EDF Energy and Ovo Energy with 20%.

Utility Warehouse came top for its website, with 49% of customers saying it’s very easy to use. Octopus was the highly commended supplier in this category, with 45% stating they found using its site very easy. These suppliers came joint top for their app; both had around half of customers saying it was very easy to use.

According to its customers, Utility Warehouse offers great value for money compared to other suppliers, and has clear bills and resolves complaints speedily. However, it receives a high number of complaints compared to the other suppliers in our survey.

If you decide to switch to Utility Warehouse and bundle other services with energy, it’s important to work out how much you would pay by getting the other services elsewhere to determine whether you really will save money.
