This classic 12in MacBook is the cheapest it’s ever been

Save £300 on Apple’s 12in MacBook

Apple products aren’t cheap. They never were, and they probably never will be. Thank goodness, then, for the odd sale which does knock the company’s prices down. They’re few and far between, but when they do come, it signals a very good day.

This most recent offer, on Apple’s 12in 2017 Space Grey MacBook with Intel Core m3 processor, 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, is worth writing home about. Formerly £1,099, Currys PC World has knocked £300 off, bringing it down to a very reasonable £799. Any MacBook at a sub-£1,000 price point feels like a win, so to have one below £800 is a positive miracle.

A quick check with our favourite price comparison tool, Camel Camel Camel, shows us this Currys PC World offer meets Amazon’s lowest ever price for the 2017 MacBook, which retailed for a brief window in June 2019 at £799, but will now set you back over £1,200.

As with any sale, you’ll want to be sure that you’re buying the product for its merit, and not just being lured in by price alone. And we can certainly vouch for the 12in MacBook (2017): we gave it four stars in our full review, lauding its fast processor and unbeatable display.

Apple has not relaunched its MacBook range since 2015, although it does make important annual tweaks to the much-loved device. While the 2017 iteration didn’t receive a design overhaul – in fact, the chassis, display and ports remained pretty much identical to the previous year’s model – this hardly qualifies as a downside. Apple is celebrated for its top-notch, pared-down design, so we were pleased that the 2017 MacBook retained that minimalistic glamour.

Traditionally, the MacBook brand sits comfortably in between the MacBook Air and the more expensive MacBook Pro – with this most recent price slash ushering it towards the lower end of the price spectrum. If you’re in the market for an affordable (by Apple’s standards, anyway), entry-level MacBook, this is the deal for you.
