Motorola Razr release date: UK pricing revealed – and it’s spectacular

Motorola's new foldable phone is available for preorder, if you can stomach the price

The Motorola Razr is back. The once-mighty clamshell phone has reappeared a couple of times since it rose to dominance back in 2004, but never with quite the same success. This time, however, Motorola’s Razr redo is looking particularly special.

Read on for everything you need to know about the next generation of Motorola Razr.

Motorola Razr: Everything we know so far

Motorola Razr release date: When can you buy one?

Right now, as it happens. The Razr has been available for preorder in the UK and US since 24/27 January (respectively). At present, it can only be purchased from EE in the UK and Verizon in the US; while Verizon states that the phone will be delivered by 18 February 2020, EE is less specific, instead stating that delivery will take place within 28 days of purchase.

Motorola Razr price: How much will it cost?

Warning: this section is not for the faint of heart. At the time of writing, contract prices in the UK start at a mind-bending £94 PER MONTH plus a £100 upfront fee. That works out at a total cost of £2,356 over 24 months, for 10GB of data and unlimited calls and texts. That’s the cheapest package, by the way.

For £99/mth plus a £50 upfront fee, you can get 60GB of data: that works out at £2,462 over 24 months. There are currently no SIM-free options, although Motorola has announced an EU price: €1,599, which equates to around £1,350.

In the US, the Razr is available to buy for $1,499, or $62.49/mth for 24 months.

And of course, there’s the fact that it folds neatly in on itself like its clamshell predecessor. Motorola recently released an owner’s manual in video form that explains how to take care of the Razr’s slightly delicate bending display – advice includes keeping the phone clear of liquids and sharp objects, and folding it before returning it to your pocket.

If you’re struggling to visualise the folding process, here’s a hands-on video we recorded:

We’ll be updating this page as the Motorola Razr nears its official shipping date. Check in again soon.
