A decent camera, but the customised interface isn't as snappy as other Snapdragon phones, and you're paying a premium for the luxury build quality

Specifications

Android 1.6, 4.0in 480×854 display

Sony’ Ericsson’s interface for the camera is improved over the stock Android interface, and allows adjustment of autofocus, metering and scene modes, white balance controls and a timer. You can even adjust the auto-focus to look for smiles. In video mode, you can shoot in WVGA (800×480 resolution) at 30fps. The 8.1-megapixel sensor takes decent snaps and video, with strong colours and good performance under artificial lighting. There’s much less noise than you get with other mobile phone cameras, but it’s still significantly worse than a cheap compact digital camera.

Timescape and Mediascape help to minimise clutter in the interface, but they aren’t as practical as HTC’s Sense interface, and the fancy animations only serve to tax the processor. Otherwise the interface is fast, and the camera is one of the best mobile phone snappers we’ve reviewed. It’s a little more expensive than most Android phones, and we don’t think it’s as good value as HTC’s Legend.
