Razer Project Christine modular PC concept revealed
Razer has announced Project Christine, a modular Desktop PC that wants to make obsolescence obsolete
Razer is no stranger to wild concepts, which in the case of 2012’s Project Fiona went on to become the Razer Edge gaming tablet, but the newly announced Project Christine is the company’s boldest yet. It’s a completely modular Desktop PC that wants to make hardware obsolecense… well, obsolete.
Whereas even the most basic PC build requires a little knowledge about what components plug into which slot and what way round cables and adaptors should be connected, Project Christine uses completely sealed component modules that can be added or removed without any additional fuss. Rather than opening up the case, undoing locking screws, disconnecting power connectors and removing an old graphics card to add a little more gaming power to a PC, you would be able to drop in a second graphics module or simply swap out an old one for a new model in seconds. It’s Quad SLI capable and could support SSDs and a RAID 5 storage array.

The hulking metal case, which in keeping with Razer’s image is black with subtle yet eye-catching green LEDs, holds up to nine PCI-Express based modules, which could contain extra storage, a better processor or beefier graphics card. Each module is completely sealed, with active liquid cooling and noise cancellation that lets Razer factory overclock the components inside without voiding warranties.
A seven screen touchscreen LCD display will indicate control and maintenance information, potentially like the Switchblade UI seen on the Deathstalker keyboard and 17in Razer Blade laptop.
According to Razer’s energetic CEO Min-Liang Tan, “This is the first gaming system that is able to keep pace with technology and could allow consumers to never buy another PC, or gaming system, again.
“We have a history of bringing incredibly innovative concept systems to market and it’s fair to say that Project Christine is a very exciting new prospect for future development.”
Right now Project Christine is nothing more than that – a prototype project that may not get off the ground. It’s certainly ambitious though, and we can’t wait to see it in the flesh.
