FlightTrack Pro
FlightTrack Pro is an essential tool for the globetrotters out there, but at £5.99, it’s definitely not for everyone – it is the best flight tracking app we’ve tested to date though and does justify its price.
It includes push alerts, real-time flight itinerary updates and automatic syncing. The maps are very detailed and allow you to zoom in – even when you’re offline – for more information although the live flight tracking is disabled in offline mode. What’s more, if your flight is cancelled, FlightTrack Pro will help you to find an alternate flight home, saving you time hassling often unhelpful ground staff.
With iOS4, FlightTrack Pro also added support for syncing with your calendar, including saving itineraries up to 11 months in advance; sharing flight data from within the app, including support for in-app SMS; and also making use of iOS4’s multitasking capabilities.
Email ‘n Walk
You’ve no doubt tried to respond to an email while you’re walking down the street and have probably had to quickly dodge obstacles (and people) along the way. Email ‘n Walk is a simple app which makes use of the iPhone’s built-in camera to show you where you’re walking while you’re typing your email.
Simply enter your subject and type your message into the boxes on top of your live walking view. Once you’ve finished, hit send and it takes you into the iPhone’s Mail app where you select your recipients and send the message.
It’s simple, effective and, at £0.59, cheap, but the developers do issue a warning with the app. It says that it “can’t take any responsibility for your stupidity, so please don’t go walking into traffic, off cliffs or into the middle of gunfights while emailing.”
