Scottish Power, based in Glasgow, was created in 1990 and has been owned by Spanish energy firm Iberdrola since 2006. It generates renewable energy solely from its UK wind farms and offers a green tariff that supplies homes with 100% renewable electricity.

The supplier offers boiler and heating care plans and plumbing repair insurance in addition to energy. Its partnership with Cancer Research UK has raised £40 million for the charity to date.

The supplier, which is one of Great Britain’s largest, won Best Provider for Smart Meters in our Expert Reviews Energy Awards 2026. 35% of customers said they were very satisfied with their smart meter or in-home display screen’s performance and reliability. It came second for its app.

Overall, the supplier finished fifth out of the seven we rated. It ranked fourth for customer service, with 25% of customers saying they were very satisfied with the service aspects we asked about. This compares with 38% for the top provider, Octopus Energy. It also ranked around the middle for the remaining categories.

In our survey, 21% of Scottish Power customers said 10 when asked how likely they are to recommend it to others on a 1-10 scale. The most recommended supplier, Octopus, achieved 35%.

Scottish Power offers two fixed tariffs with 100% green electricity. One supports Cancer Research UK and the other includes boiler cover. It also offers a deal that tracks the energy price cap and is cheaper than its standard tariff.

It has an EV tariff that gives you cheaper electricity at night and a heat pump tariff that lets you power your pump at a cheaper rate during off-peak daytime hours.

Scottish Power customers weren’t wowed by its value for money: it finished fifth, with 21% of customers saying they were very satisfied. This was much lower than Utility Warehouse with 30%. Other suppliers fared worse, however. The worst, EDF Energy, had just 17% of customers saying they were very satisfied.

It ranked fourth for customer trust, with 26% of customers saying they completely trust it to act in their best interests. As a comparison, the top performer, Utility Warehouse, had 33% of customers saying so.

Scottish Power had an above-average number of complaints, according to recent data from the energy regulator Ofgem for the second quarter of 2026. It received 1,397 per 100,000 customer accounts, while the industry average was 936; Octopus Energy had the fewest with 476.

For resolving complaints, Scottish Power wasn’t too bad compared to the other suppliers in our survey. It resolved 60% of them by the end of the next working day and 82% within eight weeks. The quickest complaint-resolving supplier, Utility Warehouse, addressed 84% and 100% of complaints within these timeframes.

Notes: Data is for Q2 2026.

Scottish Power was also mid-table for bill clarity, with 26% strongly agreeing the provider makes it simple to see exactly what they’re being charged for and why. This compares with 30% for the award winner Utility Warehouse and just under 30% for Octopus. The bottom supplier in this category – EDF Energy – only had 17% of customers saying this.

Scottish Power came fourth for how easy its website is to use, with 28% saying they found it very easy. This figure was 41% for the top provider Octopus Energy. It ranked second for its app, though, with 33% saying it was very easy to use compared with around half of customers for the award winner Octopus.

Scottish Power is an important player in renewable electricity generation and supplies 100% renewable electricity to homes on its green tariffs. It scores well for customer satisfaction in terms of the smart meter equipment it provides and has an easy-to-use app

However, its performance in the other award categories was mostly average, and it lagged behind the top two suppliers, Octopus Energy and Utility Warehouse.
