Disney Plus is coming to the UK a week earlier – and the company has finally revealed how much the service will cost

Disney has delighted fans this morning by announcing that not only will the Disney Plus streaming service launch in the UK a week earlier than first thought, but it’s also going to cost just £5.99/mth.
The news was unveiled on the official Disney Plus site. The service was due to launch on 31 March 2020, but this date has been brought forward by a week to 24 March 2020.
The update is also the first time the UK pricing has been confirmed. In addition to the monthly subscription, you also be able to buy a yearly subscription for £59.99.
A Disney Plus subscription gives you access to:
- 500 films from the Disney library
- 7,000 episodes from Disney TV
- Exclusive Marvel and Star Wars spin-off shows
- Access to Pixar and National Geographic channels
Disney has also secured the rights to all 600-ish episodes of The Simpsons. Woohoo!
What is Disney Plus?
You can read more about the services and shows offered by Disney Plus on our hub, but to summarise: it’s a streaming service designed to rival the likes of Netflix and Now TV that will show Disney classics as well as new shows from its vast catalogue.
It can be installed on up to 10 devices and streamed on four screens simultaneously.
Disney Plus launched in US, Canada, and the Netherlands on 12 November 2019 before New Zealand and Australia were added to the rollout on 19 November.

Due to different distribution rights, we can’t guarantee the UK will receive the same shows as in other regions but we’ll keep you updated once we know more.
Disney ended its contract with Netflix at the end of 2019, meaning Marvel, Pixar and Star War films are no longer available on the service and will become the exclusive fare of Disney Plus from 2020.
Disney-controlled Hulu will lose the majority of Disney content, offering just four animated shows based on minor Marvel characters – Howard the Duck, M.O.D.O.K, Hit-Monkey, and Tigra and Dazzler respectively.
It’s not yet fully clear how Disney Plus will affect DisneyLife although the company has said: “DisneyLife is becoming Disney Plus and will be rebranded in March 2020. We will communicate more information about how to transition your subscription to Disney Plus soon.”
