Dark Brotherhood, Heathstone-rivalling card game coming to Elder Scrolls Online

Elder Scrolls Online

The Dark Brotherhood assassins guild and new playable areas coming to Elder Scrolls Online in 2016

The Elder Scrolls Online only just arrived on PS4 and Xbox One last week, but that doesn’t mean Bethesda is done with content for the MMO. At the company’s E3 press conference, it was revealed that two new areas would be coming to the game next year, along with a brand new questline focusing on the guild of Assassins known as the Dark Brotherhood.

The Imperial City and Orsinium will be added as playable areas to Tamriel in the update. It will be the first time players have been able to walk the Imperial City’s streets since The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and the first chance to explore Orsinium since The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall – meaning gamers that were introduced to the series at Morrowind will be seeing it for the first time.

We’re a little more excited to join the Dark Brotherhood. The current crop of guilds available in the Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited are rather muted, with the Fighters Guild in particular providing a fairly standard set of MMO-friendly missions that don’t feel particualrly suited to the Elder Scrolls universe. We’re hoping that the Dark Brotherhood will inject some much needed series familiarity into the game. There’s currently no questline in place for the Dark Brotherhood, but they should be in place by the time the developer releases the new content to players.

Perhaps more exciting for fans of Blizzard’s bafflingly addictive card game Hearthstone and the Witcher III‘s Gwent is news that the Elder Scrolls Online will soon be getting a card game of its own later this year. Legends is a strategy game that will be free to play, and will have PC and iPad editions for playing on the move as well as when you’re at home. Little else is known about the game so far, but with E3 kicking off in earnest later today we should get more information as the week unfolds.
