GTA Online San Andreas Flight School update touches down

GTA Online still finding life in your Xbox 360 or PS3? The San Andreas Flight School update should keep it going for a while longer

Rockstar might be hard at work on porting Grand Theft Auto 5 to the PC, Xbox One and PS4, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t still life in the original versions of the game on previous-gen consoles; the developer has just released the San Andreas Flight School update for Xbox 360 and PS3 players to get their Top Gun on online.

As with previous GTA Online updates, San Andreas Flight School adds a selection of new vehicles to cause mayhem in. As well as a stunt jet, fast helicopter and Russian MIG-inspired jet fighter, players can also choose from a range of Air Force-themed clothes, use parachutes adorned with country flags, or drive one of the new Corvette-style muscle retro cars. All the new additions are teased in the trailer, below, which manages to get a few digs at one of Tom Cruise’s most famous roles in the process.

The expansive online mode has received several balance tweaks in the update too, with bonus payouts now being earned for playing missions with other gamers and larger payouts for completing harder missions, incentivising players to join up with their friends and tackle tougher objectives, rather than grinding the easier missions to earn cash.

Unfortunately, the update still has yet to add online heists to the game. Originally expected to launch towards the beginning of the year, the addition was delayed in June as it was taking longer to finish than developer Rockstar originally anticipated.

Xbox 360 and PS3 players can get the San Andreas Flight School update now by signing in to GTA Online. There’s currently no word on whether the next-gen versions of the game will be getting all this extra content at launch, or whether it will be added at a later date.
