How to watch the Community Shield: Manchester City vs Liverpool

Last season's Premier League rivals Manchester City and Liverpool face off at Wembley on Sunday for the 2019 FA Community Shield

The Community Shield game between Manchester City and Liverpool is at 3pm on Sunday 4 August.

The competition considered to be the curtain-raiser for the Premier League – which starts next week – takes place at England’s national stadium at Wembley in London.

Two of the best clubs in world football last season. Two teams that clearly start as favourites in both the Premier League and Champions League this season. Two squads with sensational managers.

Liverpool lost only one game in the Premier League last season but Manchester City won their last 14 games on the trot and stole the title from them on the last day of the tournament.

City finished the season with 98 points, while Liverpool finished with 97. This is the highest total in English top-flight history for a second-place team. Many teams have won the Premier League with much fewer points.

The Community Shield is contested between the winner of the previous season’s Premier League and the FA Cup, but Manchester City won both tournaments. In fact, they were the first men’s football team to sweep all four English domestic trophies last season, the other two being the FA Community Shield and the EFL/Carabao Cup.

Liverpool are, therefore, invited to Manchester City’s party on account of being worthy Premier League runners-up. But Jurgen Klopp’s side is no pushover. A few weeks after that tense last-day EPL finish, Liverpool proved their class by defeating Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League final.

The Reds will want nothing more than to spoil Manchester City’s day at Wembley on Sunday and prove to naysayers that they can win their first Premier League title in 30 years after losing to their opponents by a hairline last year.
