How to watch Chelsea vs Spurs: Live stream the Premier League online

Frank Lampard Chelsea dugout

This Saturday, ex-Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho returns to Stamford Bridge for the first time as manager of Tottenham Hotspur

Chelsea host Spurs in the first Premier League game of the weekend, which kicks off at 12.30pm on Saturday, 22 February, and is being broadcast live on BT Sport.

Mourinho is the centre of attention wherever he goes – no more so than when he’s back at an old club – but the game has far more than personal pride riding on it.

The two sides are fighting it out for a place in the top four and automatic qualification for next season’s Champions League, with Chelsea currently fourth on 40 points and Spurs a point behind them in fifth.

With Sheffield United and Manchester United breathing down their necks and Wolverhampton Wanderers and Everton still in with an outside chance of a top-four finish, both teams will be desperate to avoid dropping points.

The Blues, managed by club legend Frank Lampard, came out on top when the two sides met at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium back in December. Two first-half goals from Brazilian forward Willian secured a 2-0 victory for the Blues but the game was overshadowed by allegations of racist abuse towards Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger.

Fifteen minutes into the second half, Rudiger was involved in an incident that saw Tottenham’s Son Heung-min sent off following a VAR review. Shortly after Son’s dismissal, Rudiger gesticulated to suggest that he had been the subject of racial abuse.

Chelsea alerted referee Anthony Taylor and the game was briefly stopped, with three anti-racism announcements being made over the public address system over the course of the remainder of the match. A subsequent investigation by Tottenham found “no evidence to corroborate or contradict” the allegation.

Given the nature of the rivalry between the two sides and what’s at stake, it’s bound to be a blood and thunder affair, but all involved will be hoping we don’t see a repeat of the kind of scenes that marred the first fixture.

Chelsea go into the game having picked up just five points from a possible 15, a run that’s seen them lose to Newcastle United and Manchester United and draw with Arsenal and Leicester City. They are likely to be without midfield dynamo N’Golo Kante, who suffered a muscle injury in his side’s 2-0 defeat at Manchester United on Monday evening.

Spurs, on the other hand, are on a three-game winning streak in the Premier League following victories over Norwich City, Manchester City and Aston Villa. However, they are short on attacking options after it was confirmed that Son fractured his arm in their win at Villa and may miss the rest of the season. His absence and the long-term injury to England captain Harry Kane, mean Spurs will be relying on Dele Ali, Lucas Moura and new signing Steve Bergwijn to create a threat going forward.
