How to watch the US Open 2021 Final for free: Live stream Emma Raducanu vs Leylah Fernandez anywhere online

Watch teenage tennis sensations Emma Raducanu and Leylah Fernandez battle it out in the US Open Final on Saturday, 11 September

Rising British tennis superstar Emma Raducanu faces off against another promising teenager – Canada’s Leylah Fernandez – in the US Open Women’s Singles Final on Saturday, 11 September, from 9:00pm BST (4:00pm local time).

UK viewers can watch the Final live on Amazon Prime Video (free trial for new users). If you’re abroad, you can stream live coverage of the final using a good VPN service, like ExpressVPN (30-day moneyback guarantee).

18-year-old Emma Raducanu became the first qualifier in the Open era – both male or female – to make a Final; and the first British woman to reach a tennis Grand Slam Women’s Singles Final in 44 years after she defeated Maria Sakkari 6-1 6-4 in the semi-final.

Her meteoric rise to tennis stardom has put her on a collision course with history as she aims to become the first British woman to win a singles title since Virginia Wade in 1977. What makes Raducanu’s accomplishments even more noteworthy is that she is yet to drop a set all tournament.

However, Raducanu will need to be cautiously optimistic of her opponent in Saturday’s Final because 19-year-old Leylah Fernandez from Canada has had a tougher draw defeating four seeded players in her last four consecutive rounds to reach the Final.

The Canadian knocked out two former World no. 1s – Naomi Osaka (in the third round) and Angelique Kerber (in the Round of 16) – fifth-seed Elina Svitolina in the Quarter-final, and two-seed Aryna Sabalenka in the semi-final.

All of these matches lasted three sets, so if the game goes into the deciding set the Canadian will have an advantage over Raducanu who has – so far – has not had to go the distance in any of her matches.

This will be the first US Open Women’s Finals between two teenagers since Serena Williams and Martina Hingis at the 1999 US Open and we all know what successful careers those two professional women tennis players went on to have.

Who is Emma Raducanu?

It’s hard to imagine that in June 2021 barely anyone knew who she was, but 18-year old Emma Raducanu from Britain became a household name among tennis fans when she reached the fourth round of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships this year – which came on her debut as a wildcard no less. This helped her gain access to the 2021 US Open qualifying.

Raducanu has quite a varied heritage. She was born in Toronto, Canada, to a Romanian father and Chinese mother and her family moved to England when she was two years old. She started playing tennis at the age of five and honed her skills at the Bromley Tennis Centre in London from ages 10 to 16, during which time she idolised former World No. 1 Simona Halep and Li Na.

Raducanu became the lowest-ranked US Open semi-finalist since Kim Clijsters in 2009 and the youngest since Maria Sharapova since 2005, so it’s clear that – regardless of what happens on Saturday – she’s already in elite company.

These records have also significantly skyrocketed her net worth. The 18-year-old has earned $1.2m for reaching the 2021 US Open Final alone, which is four times the amount that she has earned during her entire career so far. A win on Saturday will double that amount to $2.5m.

With promising skill at such a young age – not to mention a charming personality that appeals to younger fans worldwide – it’s no doubt that Emma Raducanu is already on her road to superstardom. A victory in New York on Saturday, with the whole world watching, will only elevate that status.
