Deal alert: £200 off the Microsoft Surface Laptop 2

Black Friday comes early, and this is a deal you won’t want to miss

Hold onto your hats: this is a Surface Laptop 2 deal that’s so good even I’m tempted. And I came into the office today to make money, not spend it, dammit.
The Surface Laptop 2 – which you’ll remember only came out last month – is already subject to a truly tempting discount at both Microsoft’s official store and Amazon. Of these, Amazon offers the best discounts, offering up to £200 off the RRP of almost every model in the range.
The cheapest Surface Laptop 2 – the one I’m mentally cheating on my MacBook Pro with right now – comes in at £779. Even though it’s the cheapest, it’s no performance slouch, packing an eighth-generation Intel Core i5-8250U processor clocked at 3.4GHz, 8GB of RAM and 128GB SSD storage.
Protecting my bank balance and my MacBook Pro’s feelings is the fact that this configuration only comes in platinum, rather than the snazzy burgundy, cobalt blue or black versions. To get these, you’ll have to spend more money, nudging the specs up modestly with an extra 128GB of SSD space. Unfortunately, this only knocks £99.01 off the RRP, making it a tough sell overall.
If you want more grunt, however, the prices begin to become appealing again. The Core i7 model with 8GB of RAM and 256GB storage comes in at £1,329 – a £200 saving off its RRP. If you want that i7 processor, but with 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD, you’re looking at £1,879 – again, a saving of £200. Finally, for the person with more money than sense, you can save £179.01 off the i7 model with 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD, bringing it in at a spicy £2,349.99.
To be clear, these prices still don’t make it the best budget laptop you can buy, but the Surface Laptop 2 is a wonderful experience. As Tom wrote in his review: “Microsoft Surface Laptop 2 is a near-perfect ultraportable laptop, with only a sub-par battery life and limited connection ports holding it back. Its design is flawless, both functionally and aesthetically, and its performance is up there with big-name rivals from Dell and Asus. Sure, it’s expensive, but you’re paying for quality – the Surface Laptop 2 is a highly desirable device. In summary: can I keep it, Microsoft?”
Now it’s less expensive, there’s very little holding you back if you’re on the fence.
