Google has killed the Chromecast Audio – here’s how to buy it before it’s too late

Chromecast Audio plugged in

The music streaming device is still available at some stores for £30 but act quickly before it sells out

Google has confirmed it’s discontinued the Chromecast Audio, the diminutive music streamer that lets you cast high-resolution music to any speaker with an auxiliary input.

The story first emerged after Reddit user u/joliolioli had a Chromecast Audio order cancelled and later received an email explaining the product was no longer available.

The company later confirmed the news in a statement to Android Police.

“Our product portfolio continues to evolve and now we have a variety of products for users to enjoy audio. We have therefore stopped manufacturing our Chromecast Audio products,” the statement reads.

“We will continue to offer assistance for Chromecast Audio devices, so users can continue to enjoy their music, podcasts and more.”

Buy now from Very

This is hugely disappointing news for fans of the handy streaming device. If you’re one of these people, the simplest resolution is to buy the Chromecast Audio before it goes out of stock forever.

It’s no longer available from the Google Store but is in stock at Very, and you can also reserve it for collection from some Currys stores. To find out where it’s available, just use the Collect in Store button on the product page.

If you’ve thought about buying one in the past, now is the time to do it before it’s consigned to history permanently.

The Chromecast Audio can be connected to both analogue and digital inputs on a Hi-Fi, amp or dock, and it supports streaming from most popular music apps, including Spotify, Deezer, Tidal, TuneUp radio and BBC iPlayer Radio. When used in conjunction with a Google Home speaker, you can start music playback to the Chromecast Audio using your voice alone.
